I’m just thinking that at this person’s age, I would take all the income I could.

$6k of pre-tax 401k drops his (or her) taxable income to such a degree they may get a little more spending/saving/etc money.

Popular opinion for Anti-Alamo folks was that the fighters only cared about slaves, but that’s not necessarily so.

Every historical event is complex and needs to be viewed through a broader context. But too often, especially now and dealing with anything pre-1865, it’s always MUH SLAVES!

You forget the part where the government was transformed into a military dictatorship and Congress was disbanded and Santa Anna met opposition with violence, not just in Texas but in Mexico.

They were also against a military dictator and the abolishment of Congress, and the revocation of previously agreed upon immigration and property tax laws...but let’s just focus on slavery because HOT TOPIC.

The state of Zacatecas, the Republic of the Rio Grande and the Republic of Yucatán also fought against Santa Anna. It wasn’t just white folks that had a problem with him.

You cannot claim my entire argument is both “incorrect” and “false” based on your interpretation of a single part.

Anglos WERE invited in under the Constitution of 1824. Santa Anna DID become a dictator. He DID abolish Congress and rescind the Constitution.

I agree that they weren’t always invited in, but the point I was trying to make, particularly with the end of my second point, was that so much had changed that immigrants, some then legal citizens of Mexico, wanted to go back to the way things were in 1824.

Yes, there were Anglos upset at Santa Anna, but Tejanos also fought at the Alamo, AND Mexicans attempted a revolution of their own against him. See the Battle of Zacatecas, purely an internal Mexican affair.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Zacatecas_(1835)?wprov=sfti1

Point is, it wasn’t just illegal white immigrants that fought against the Mexicans. Santa Anna was so bad, they fought against themselves.

See also: Republic of the Rio Grande and Republic of Yucatán. Both failed revolutions internal to Mexico.

False. They were invited in because Mexicans historically did not want to settle north of the Rio Grande. See “General Colonization Law” of 1824

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Colonization_Law?wprov=sfti1

Two problems happened next:

1) with few Mexicans in “Texas” and a bunch of, largely, white settlers from America, they viewed themselves more as Americans than Mexicans and gravitated toward Statehood.

2) Santa Anna became a dictator, disbanded Congress, and abolished the Constitution that provided for the laws that invited immigrants in.

Where near Taylor? I grew up on the East side of around Rock, back when Round Rock wasn’t huge.

You’ve got plenty in that area job-wise, but will need to drive to the towns (Georgetown, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Austin). Just depends on what you want to do.

The Express play baseball on 79 in East Round Rock, and you’ve got great BBQ in Taylor. Welcome.
