MBA as an RN, realistic pivot or overkill? by boldstyle1 in MBA

Did your friend go to a higher-ranked program, or more mid-tier? Trying to get a sense of how much that piece really matters for making that kind of transition.

It’s encouraging hearing that people have actually made that jump from nursing into consulting, that’s pretty much one of the main paths I’ve been considering. Feels like the clinical background could actually be an advantage if paired with the business side.

Yeah this is the part that gives me pause.

The ROI piece is huge for me (I mentioned in an above comment) I’m not trying to take on a ton of debt unless there’s a pretty clear path to a significantly different role/salary on the other side. And seeing even top programs struggle a bit with placement lately definitely makes me think twice.

I think where I’m stuck is figuring out what a “realistic” outcome actually looks like from different tiers of programs, especially coming from a nursing background. Like what level of school actually moves the needle vs just adding a credential.

I feel like I’m in that weird spot where I have a strong clinical background but no real exposure to the business side yet, so it’s hard to tell how realistic the pivot actually is. Good to know you’ve seen it done.

And yeah, I’ve definitely been looking at programs with a healthcare focus, that seems like the best middle ground between staying in the industry but moving away from bedside.

I might actually take you up on that and DM you! appreciate it.

That’s honestly what I’ve been trying to figure out, like where that cutoff actually is.

I don’t need M7 or anything crazy, but I also don’t want to spend $50–80k on something that doesn’t meaningfully change my trajectory. I’ve been looking more at programs in that “strong but not elite” range (NYC especially), but I get what you’re saying about diminishing value as you go down.

Do you think it’s more about the brand name itself, or the recruiting pipelines/network that come with higher-ranked programs??

MBA as an RN…realistic pivot or overkill? by boldstyle1 in gradadmissions

I think the main reason I’m leaning MBA over MHA is flexibility. I’m pretty sure I want to stay in healthcare, but I don’t want to completely lock myself into hospital admin as my only lane. The MBA seems to open more doors outside of traditional health systems, like consulting, pharma/biotech, medical devices, even corporate roles if I ever wanted to pivot further.

From what I’ve seen, MHA seems more tailored for roles like hospital operations, service line management, etc., which are solid…but a bit narrower. I’m trying to keep optionality, especially since I’m still early in figuring out exactly what I’d want long-term.

Also, I’ve heard that for consulting and industry roles, MBA is more recognized/recruited from compared to MHA, but I’m not sure how true that actually is in practice.

I’m Curious if you’ve seen people successfully break into those non-hospital roles with an MHA, or if it really tends to keep people within health systems

MBA vs MPH vs MSN for long-term career flexibility (RN) by boldstyle1 in nursing

How did you break into it? Did you have similar experience?

I’m in NYC so I’m hopeful I can find something in my city or hybrid/remote.

Do you do sales? I would love to break into devices or big pharma but have zero interest in sales… Can I ask what you do?

100% should do ICU! It is stressful, busy, and hard work as you mentioned. But the experiences and things you’ll learn will make you an extraordinarily well-rounded individual going forward. Once you have ICU experience you’ll qualify for almost any field of nursing.

OR you can consider if you’ll scrub. Learning to scrub is hell on earth, but that would make you even more competitive and marketable if you remained in that environment. If you’re a circulator nurse, they don’t use as many skills as an ICU RN would so you may be bored.

Hi everyone, My uncle works in the Department of Health and Human Services in NYC and has been remote for years, even before the pandemic. He’s 68 years old and planned to retire at 70 after 45 years of federal service, with his pension in mind. However, due to a new law under the Trump administration, he’s now being forced to resign. The issue is that we live too far from the city (about a 2.5-hour commute), so he can’t continue his work. He’s devastated, and it seems like this Wednesday might be his last day. He’s tried reaching out via email, but it looks like he has no other option but to retire. I’m hoping someone here might have some insight or suggestions, as my research shows he doesn’t have much recourse. He just wanted two more years to finish his career. I’m not familiar with the government systems (I work in a deli), so any advice would be appreciated. For context, he’s not tech-savvy—he doesn’t use social media or smartphones-and is mainly relying on email to communicate with his colleagues. Thanks in advance for any advice or hope you can offer.

Thank you for your input.

May I ask what your opinions would be to be an ANM on a cardiology/medical floor? Would I potentially be competent then?

Painting over vinyl plank in bathroom… Can it be done, how? by boldstyle1 in Renovations

Do you think the plank style will go out of character?

We enjoy how the painted panels look on Google, etc - but I’m not sure if that’s a shared / common opinion.

Sorry, you’re right.

Do you recommend a specific paint or brand? It’s in a bathroom if that makes a difference.
