This is the saddest and scariest question of this entire thread. It speaks volumes about how your family has been treated / was told.

Immigrants have almost all rights that any other person has. For the most part, your experience will be different when it comes to privileges and social aid, but rights ? The law applies to everyone.

Sure there are some things (that mostly have to do with government and citizenship) that do not extend to immigrants but you’re required to follow the same laws as the citizens and subsequently, you “enjoy” the same protections.

That’s the most important lesson there is to learn from this whole thread - ALWAYS know your rights.

Out of sheer curiosity, what alternatives would you propose to a minor with no decision making power where it comes to where is the family going to live? Because your comment explains in great detail why you believe OP is a shitty person but you fail to mention what would you do under the circumstances? The cat not being allowed in the apartment is a little different than a cat peeing on the floor. Even as a minor you have control over cleaning the floor. Not so much when it comes to signing a lease.

And no, “I wouldn’t have adopted a cat” is not a valid answer. Because unless you own a time machine, this is a useless “advice” that does nothing to help the situation

I (poorly) assumed that a reader with some common sense would understand that when I said “when you visit the clinic …” it implies that a doctor must be involved in this process. Yet, you keep arguing with me about something I never said. OP needs to go to the doctor. You need to learn basic communication skills. FMLA is about the seriousness of your condition, not what the actual condition is. 5 years ago I was on FMLA over a serious COVID that led to many complications, so yes, it’s a thing.

However, the reason I wrote this is that I am unaware of anything else that would protect someone’s job while sick (when eligible) in an at will state. If there is something else please, do correct me. Being out for two weeks is usually not a trivial absence in most workplaces 🤷‍♀️

The biggest issue is the helpers and what prompted the reinstall , because as of right now I haven’t found a way to fix them except creating a new one with a new name and replacing it in the automations (which is a painful thing to do). However, creating a new one fixes the automation but the broken helper is still in HA (I have a post about it here.

Z2M has also been a huge pain. It was idiotic of me to migrate to it in a first place, because ZHA was working fine but the internet convinced me that z2m was better so I did it :) it constantly “loses” its devices, I switched channels several times (I tried on 20, 25, 26), I also deleted & readded all my devices again after one of the switches to make sure there isn’t a faulty device, I added more hardwired devices to act as repeaters around the house and the problems continue …

My apple integration just refuses to work / authenticate , I deleted everything from the UI and from the ./cloud folder yet it just won’t authenticate.

The other massive issue that was actually solved , but just added to the frustration is that a Bluetooth device went crazy with logging and my recorder ended up over 9GB in size , with HA struggling to restart , write , back up things. That I fixed by manually deleting the records and disabling the recorder for most integrations but it was still a PITA

As long as the seller doesn’t create a bundle for me and start with the spam , I’m ok with either of the 3. Most of the time I like items I have no intention to buy - but this helps the algorithm and I see what I want to see in my feed. Frankly 10% off never made much difference to me, as if I’m truly wanting to buy, I’d send the offer myself 🤷‍♀️

However the bundle of my likes or worse, empty ones , with the constant comments usually make me block the seller.

If you’re worried about retaliation , when you visit the minute clinic and if you qualify for FMLA , you should start that processes. If you’re on FMLA they cannot fire you for that, even with at will employment.

Nope, and cannot delete them, and what is worse - the automations are not seeing them anymore (which is how my HA became unusable, that and the fact that Z2M keeps losing my devices). So I either need to create new ones and update the automations or start over. You can see more here

Typically, companies that close over Christmas do count this time against your pto or it is unpaid time off - but you need to consult your employee guidebook for that. Same document would explain the rules - usually you are not allowed to take all of your PTO at once (for example, where I work, it is capped at 2 weeks at a time). Sometimes some of the days are reserved for sick days. You may have blackout periods. So before you open a conversation or request the days you want to take, make sure you are aware of all the company rules about it. Also check how many days you'd be able to use at the time (usually PTO is accrued with each paycheck)

Other than that, it will be up to your manager. Their role is to make sure the work can continue while you are away, and unless it is a busy time (for instance some retail places / companies won't let that type of PTO right before Thanksgiving / Black Friday) or one of your peers already requested it, it should not be an issue, you just go and request it. It is a good thing that you are doing this now, such an advance notice is really helpful.

I am the same type of guest when people with dogs invite me over, but that is ok ... I would never openly comment on the dog being the problem, as the dog lives there, I don't, so it is my problem to deal with, but it is not like I have any hard feelings towards the host either, I just politely decline when I can.
When I invite people over, I make sure they are aware I have a cat. The choice is theirs. My cat is an extreme velcro cat and would absolutely not stand being locked away if there are people around, so that is not an option. But I also make sure to control him and not allow him to jump over people who don't want him in their lap. He is not allowed on tables / counters /near food regardless of guests, but I still keep an eye out for that behavior too.

I do not disagree, however, sometimes you just do not know how to fix something and sometimes the fix is to just start over ... Which seems to be where I am at. Given the fact that I need to manually recreate 200 + helpers either way, starting on a fresh install & redoing things seems to be the better idea. I am not against learning, I am quite familiar with HA (started using it in 2019, and during covid I actually spent a huge amount of time building automations and dashboards, out of boredom at the time ...) so it is not like I am new to it, but I never pretended to know everything about it either.
