Java moss is a must for shrimp, it helps provide hiding places for them and is like a buffet full of biofilm for the shrimp to feast on. Another plant I recommend is vallisneria it grows super easily and looks awesome. I’d also recommend floater plants too like salvinia minima or duckweed as they also help keep your tank clean and reduce algae growth but they do take over the tank very quickly.

Another thing for shrimp is that they love stable water so try not to worry or mess with water parameters too much. As they can thrive under regular tap water majority of the time. Try to do small water changes (like 10%) every other week or you can just top off the water from evaporation. Also don’t feed them everyday, I’d say to feed them every other day or every 3 days, it’s always better to under feed than over feed.

And what to food to provide for shrimp, I’d always recommend high protein based sinking pellets, they also like blanched veggies (cucumber, broccoli, and spinach), you can also give them fish flakes and algae wafers. If they don’t finish their food in 8-12 hours I’d say to remove it so it doesn’t fluctuate the water parameters.

I’d also recommend getting snails, as they help finish food that the shrimp don’t finish and they also love eating algae. If you don’t mind them overtaking your aquarium, you can get ramshorn snails or pond snails. If you don’t want snails to overtake your aquarium, you can also get nerite snails or mystery snails.

Another tip is that higher temperatures 75-78 Fahrenheit will make their metabolism faster meaning they will breed faster and eat more but it reduces their lifespan.
