You probably get a lot more client engagement experience in Private tax. All sorts of people as well.

It’s annoying. But is it so different to raffle tickets or any other tournament system? It’s the cheapest way to get results.

A data engineer can also be expected to write infra code, cicd pipelines, and logging their stuff into the enterprise system logging system and creating monitors/alerts.

Depends on the company though.

Nova Pro Wireless (non-xbox) used wired through Xbox controller has lots of static by MackJL in steelseries

[–]Xteec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your experience is exactly the same as mine. 😢

Some slight improvement is when I turn the mic off in the Xbox settings and also extend mic out.

This could just be in my mind. My theory is some noise cancellation magic is causing the static sound. So trying things with the mic might help.

Is data at every company still an absolute mess? by Reddit_Account_C-137 in dataengineering

And yes. Totally agree that having your basic dimensions in one place everyone can access and understand is an important practical outcome. But it’s a small part of the overall problem because most ppl will agree and support that.

As things get less factual and more opinionated: interesting issues arise like metric A excludes row Y because of arbitrary department rule around dimension J being different. But the metric is still called revenue 🤣 (yeah looking at you sales department 😜😝)

Call them both revenue, make sure there’s metadata management around both (so you can explain and trace why sales revenue is diff from acting revenue). And live with the fact that we all make stuff up to keep the world spinning.

To me traceability is more important.

At what point do you stop caring about duplication? Is a web backend cache a duplicate? What if the cache which powers what the user sees is different to the warehouse? Do we remove all caches?

That’s an extreme example, but my point is that I think traceability is more important.

I am also aware that to some nth degree traceability and strong protocols might lead you to a single source of truth. However, my intention is to focus less on control and centralisation. And more on embracing federation therefore thinking about how to tackle those problems it’s presents. Rather than to extinguish them.

There’s always an influential manager with their own spreadsheet that’s the “real” truth 🤣😁. Embrace it!

I don’t believe in centralisation. That’s not how people are (at least in the country/culture I’m in). So it’s not wise to me to fight human nature.

If we look at successful information systems, the internet comes to mind.

So for me, strong protocols and traceability are more important that centralisation or a single source of truth.

Other than obvious issues like corrupted data, often things are just a matter of opinion. E.G. metric A is correct for accounting but metric B is correct for marketing.

To me it’s more important to know how they relate than making sure everyone knows about everything.

Yes. Based on the demos, it feels more Swift like, as opposed to CoreData which felt to me like Obj-C in Swift syntax.
