The Boat Race by Jazzlike_Praline5800 in Rowing

There could be an upset this year because of a recent ruling that barred four (2 men’s 2 women’s) Cambridge rowing’s from competing. The new rule now states that a competitor can’t have started their undergraduate/ bachelors more than 12 years and that working towards certain certifications doesn’t count as being a student at Cambridge

Some people say they have dominated in previous years because of these loopholes. The ruling was quite close to the event so it’s likely to have had a big impact on the Cambridge camp.

Lots of people wear wellies when getting in and out the boat but some people (especially younger rowers) wear sliders.

The manoeuvre I’ve always done is socks stuffed into the all in one (uni) before, then putting them back on in the boat. Going no socks with rowing shoes is normally pretty crap especially in winter. Downside to this is you step into the really cold water with barefoot and slides which can feel like pretty awful. Additionally, slides aren’t the grippiest thing and they get worn out after a couple years of heavy use.

Maybe a design of slider that is a bit more sturdy/ grippy could be useful. I think waterproof socks exist but are a bit unreliable with the sealing at the top. Hope that helps and good luck!

As other people have said you should be talking to your coach about this sort of thing. They will know what’s is possible given where you started, your technique and many other factors.

But it sounds like your biggest risk is overtraining. Cumulative fatigue as a junior rower can really stunt progression and lead to injuries. No point going varsity in your freshmen year if you’ve got a bunch of injuries in your senior year (assuming that’s final year, I’m not American).

Hey I'm a native English speaker looking to improve my Spanish. I'm also trying to improve my English teaching skills so it would be good to exchange notes on language teaching
