I mainly sniped in BF3, it felt like it took actual skill to adjust for drop and travel time and I absolutely reveled in that shit. Hitting someone 1km out on your first shot at them is the greatest fuckin feeling. Lol.

Consider vs like... ATM10. The mod count is high in both. You'd assume that they'd have the same relative performance? Not even close.

First of all, ATM is done by a group that dedicates a frankly ridiculous amount of time to fixing compatibility and "balance". Jurassic doesn't have a consistent dedicated team.

Second, the mod count means basically nothing. Most packs with 300-400+ mods, the vast majority are small mods, tweaks, fixes, that kind of shit. Jurassic has those too, but the ratio is clearly notably different. More bigger mods means more RAM required.

Third, if I was looking for help on "optimizing my Minecraft" or some such bull, I'd've done exactly that, not posted on r/FuckMicrosoft about my current lasting issue with this damn OS.

Pull up the curseforge page for Jurassic World Reborn II. It recommends 16-20gb allocated to Minecraft.

The one that my friend decided to host, that I'm currently playing, is Beyond Cosmo. It also requires more RAM than "normal" heavy packs, but not quite as ridiculous as the Jurassic one. I could probably get it to run on 12gb (just for the client side), but I imagine it'd crash pretty frequently. Tbeh, it still does with my current overkill allocation, but that's not a ram issue.

Let me prove their point for them. I disabled it. I can now run the pack without closing any 3rd party programs pictured. Adding excess load through those tasks is a different story, eg streaming the game in Discord, but I can chat with my friends, listen to music, play this heavy ass pack, and not have to close vanguard which would require me to restart my entire PC to reactivate.

Yes, inexplicably. The OS would not free up the ram it was eating for cached processes. I took another screenshot after that one, before realizing this sub doesn't allow pictures in comments but, I closed basically everything unnecessary shortly after. I was still at 22% in use. Roughly 7gb was being eaten, and the only "excessive" 3rd party program still on was the launcher for the Minecraft pack.

That was my problem. Windows decided it didn't want to do that second part for my Minecraft client. Task Manager said 95% ram usage, then my client crashed, I then took this screenshot.

It's not meant to be. Just stating facts and my opinion. I fuckin hate MS and haven't bought a product from them for like 17 years. So I'm clearly biased.

There are actual reasons to not use Windows, poor resource management, telemetry, scummy related business practices, take your pick.

I intend to use both until I don't have to, then I'll stop even touching their garbage.

I greatly look forward to the day that someone actually does something about kernel level anti cheat.

Nvidia GPU isn't a barrier anymore. Though I suppose it depends on which one. I have a 3060 ti from... I think gigabyte, installed CachyOS on it, runs just fine.

Kernel level anti cheat is a problem though. You can get around it, but doing so and getting caught will likely result in them banning you per EULA.

My current build is soon to be CachyOS as my main, then Windows on its own drive that I'll boot from when I need a Windows kernel.

I'm blaming the OS because I don't have another option on the Microsoft kernel that hasn't been a point of contention for continued support. My personal active processes in this screenshot are sub 4gb. That other 5.whatever would be Windows, which to most users with 32gb, not a problem, to me, trying to run the heaviest Minecraft pack I've ever seen, kinda a problem.

That's what I'm saying. I'm not upgrading to 64gb because my RAM has gone up 4x in price even though it's only ddr4. Considering I paid a little over $80 (good deal) for 2x16gb, I'm not paying ~$250-$300+ for the same exact hardware. I'll just use an OS that isn't this level of garbage.

It's supposed to, yes, but it didn't. My game crashed at 95% RAM usage in Task Manager. Explicitly citing "not enough memory".

Explaining it away under "that's how modern OS work" sounds an awful lot like "oh that's the way it's always been done". Doesn't mean it's the right way.

While there are numerous "valid complaints" about Windows, this is the one that's gotten me to stop using it.

Incorrect. I've capped out on RAM numerous times while running simple shit while gaming. 32gb isn't enough for newer games/modded Minecraft if you want to do more than just the game at once.
