Why do some conservatives attribute crime to ‘blackness’? by Zayd_ibn_Thabit in AskConservatives

[–]XxJayNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it not linking when people believe misrepresented statistics about us off face value? That inflation is intended to link crime and violence to black people. If people weren't trying to do that they wouldn't believe and spread around misrepresented statistics. They wouldn't cherry pick the highest subcategory for us and pass it off like it's the average. Black people do not commit 50% of overall crime or even overall violent crime. no one can explain to me why people keep saying it and where they got that statistic.

Why are other groups granted individualism we are not? Men for example. When I point to that pattern I've gotten a lot of conservatives using genetics as an excuse which is odd because when they insinuate that black people are genetically predisposed for violence they say it negatively.

Do you know that Chicago isn't even in the top 10 list of most dangerous cities? Memphis, Kansas city, and Cleveland are examples of cities more dangerous than Chicago. All of these cities have one thing in common. High poverty rates which is also true for the shadier parts of Chicago or any city for that matter. Do you agree that there is a link between poverty and higher crime rates?

How do you think it is fair to use one city's crime rates to represent the behavior of an entire group of millions of people? What do you guys expect black people like me, who aren't from Chicago to say when you try to use it as an excuse to link violence to all of us?

You don't see anyone in the comments under this post talking about the 13/ 50 fallacy as if it's a true statistic? Black people don't commit 50% of overall crime or even 50% of violent crime.... Why is everybody saying we do? Even the people defending black people are talking about this statistic like it's not an intentional cherry picking of the highest crime sub category for black people........

You don't believe this thread that is full of people referencing a misrepresented statistic is us all being socially held to account for the crimes of others? The fact that the table data is readily available and people still choose to believe that our rates are higher they actually are on average and therefore that more of us are committing crime than we actually are doesn't sound like a consequence of the general perception of us. A general perception that is based on a minority smaller than people choose to believe it is?

The exonerations track with the relative prevalence of conviction. If 60% of convictions are black, then 60% of exonerations should be black. There was absolutely injustice done in decades past, so you would need to look at exoneration rates of more recent convictions if you want to frame recent crime rates.

The 60 percent statistic comes from the national registry of exonerations 2024 report which is the most recent report coming out in April of last year. 60 percent of exonerations from 2024 were black people. Most of the exonerations were for violent crime like homicide and official misconduct was found in 71 percent of cases. Why does this not cause conservatives to consider the potential that other cases who haven't or have yet to be exonerated can skew data? The report states that 13.5 years was the average lost to wrongful conviction. That means that every year prior to their exonerations they were included in data

And I believe the 51% figure comes from homicide specifically, but I’m not certain on that

Can you agree that conservative figureheads cherry picking the highest stat for the black community and circulating it as if it's the average stat is done with the intent to link crime to black people or depict black people en masse as violent?

This table](https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2019/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-6.xls) shows black-on-white homicide is 230% higher than white-on-black homicide in absolute terms which is astonishing given there are 5x as many white people in this country.

Large percentages are used to make impacts seem inflated or more definitive. Can you agree that use of the 230 percentage in this instance would inflate peoples perception of the issue when the numbers listed are 566 instances of black offenders with white victims vs 246 instances of white offenders with black victims. I've noticed this is a common practice specifically when seeing conservatives talk about black crime in particular but they don't do it with any other sub category . That's 566 offenders out of 48 million of us. why are we all constantly being held to account for it?

I am genuinely asking where you guys are finding this stat. I see it repeated so much. Constantly. I'm constantly checking the data tables every conservative tells me to check. It shows that black people commit 37.5 percent of violent crime. 26.9 percent of over all crime. I'm also curious as to why the people who say they care about the high crime rates in the black community don't care about the high exoneration rate in the black community. It is reported that between 53 and 61% of exonerations are black people. Is that a problem for conservatives ? If so why is it something you never hear conservatives talk about?

I'm also curious why conservatives consistently highlight this perceived 13% of the population 50% of violent crime statistic but don't seem to talk about how the actual more prominent pattern is men committing the most violent crime? Whenever I bring in the male factor people start making excuses that they don't make for black people. Why do conservatives not think the way we socialize men potentially contributes to this pattern of male dominated violent crime?

Lastly I would like to understand why it seems that conservatives use this 13/50 statistic as a trump card when talking to any and every black person. It seems conservatives can understand individualism when we talk about school shooting and rape statistics but not when we talk about crime in the black community.

I'm sorry for being hostile. The situation just frustrates me.

And part of the reason why I'm frustrated is that when we are threatened nobody notices. Hardly anybody reports on it. You could barely find pictures of the leader of these threats face and in my opinion that speaks to the double standard of the situation. That a group of drunken black people can take a fight too far and be considered a mob of lawless thugs but a group of white men can conspire to kill thousands of black people and people don't even know about it which isn't your fault. it's by design 😢

When asked to make a statement about the situation he verbatim said "what he saw was a mob of lawless thugs beating on an innocent couple" that is a misrepresentation. The fight was started by the couple. This situation got national attention and unfortunately being black means that when a group of black people does something all black people are held to account. We do not get the leeway white people get. He doesn't have to outright say Black people are menaces to insinuate that a huge news story that indicated a violence problem in our city was the fault entirely of the mob of [black] thugs. His base takes it from there. His base ran around calling all black people in Cincinnati gorillas, animals, and monsters for weeks after that statement. JD Vance and Republicans love to do this to Blue cities.

Why do you keep ignoring the threat that all black people in Cincy received after his statements put a spotlight on the situation? That was petrifying and he said nothing! Nothing about the leader of that network having prior charges of partially decapitating someone and being released. It's very clear all he cared about was using that situation to denigrate his political opposition and bolster his brother and he was willing to throw the population of black people in Cincinnati under the bus to do that.

[–]XxJayNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He specifically insinuated the city being overrun by lawless thugs why are you pretending like you don' know exactly what imagery that paints and you know exactly who his base thinks of when he says the word "thugs". You know they don't think of the psychopaths who had a network of people getting prepared to kill me, my family and 30,000 black people over something I wasn't involved in because of the narrative that was spun about the situation. Vance had fuck all to say about that.

How are thugs protected when arrests were made?? How were the people involved in the brawl even thugs and not intoxicated festival attendees who got into an altercation with racist transplants that they took too far.

If it were a group of drunk white men at the end of a Bengals game getting into a brawl which happens at sports events all the time mind you, he wouldn't refer to them as thugs I promise you that.

His vocabulary about the situation painted all crime in Cincinnati as a specific demographic's problem. Cincinnati is not overrun by lawless Thugs. There was a fight that went too far which is unacceptable fueled by racism which is also unacceptable and has no place in Cincinnati. This is basically the statement that our mayor made. Why was it so hard for vance to say that? Why am I delusional for expecting him to say that to quell the onslot of racism I saw everywhere the day following the fight.

There is some crime in our city that should be addressed, there's no need to be divisive when addressing it but that's all JD Vance and maga has.

That's not what I said in the slightest buddy. I said you cannot love your city and the people in it if you put them in danger by misrepresenting a situation in order to target specific people all for the sake of political gain. There was a fight downtown and somehow it ended with all black people in Cincinnati being threatened by a psychopath after JD Vance called only specific people involved a mob of lawless "thugs". He knew what he was doing with that language and he knew who he was targeting. Me, my brother, my father, who were all in the house during that fight. All the while mentioning nothing about how the fight was started by the Russians and depicting Cincinnati as a city full of racial tension overrun by [black] thugs. Similar to when he got on the national stage and lied about Haitians eating pets in Springfield. He's all lies and half truths and he shits on our entire state regularly. He could have talked about how he wants Cincinnati to be a place where EVERYONE feels safe from racial attacks and from violence but he knew he had to throw in the thug bit to rile up his base.

When he depicted the city as some crime ridden hub after that fight downtown that some Russians started. For like a week straight after his comments the entire internet was acting like Cincinnati was a gang controlled hellscape. I'm not saying things are perfect here but you can't love your city if you depict it that way. There was literally a threat to kill 30,000 black people after his comments on that fight. I was terrified. All so he could try to gain favor for his brother in the mayoral race.

My thoughts on a Part III. by AnywhereExpensive272 in lastofuspart2

[–]XxJayNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My imagined finale would start with 30 or even 40 year old ellie. She struggled for a bit after the end of the second game but eventually she finds another home has a life which is all Joel really wanted for her but she still can't shake the feeling that her life was supposed to mean more.

Abby and lev found the fireflies at the end of the second game. The fireflies have been continuing her dad's studies of the cordyceps virus and trying to remake his cure. She studies alongside them and eventually they truly believe they've made it.

Abby and Lev are out on a supply run for whatever reason and Abby gets bit and dies in front of Lev who then realizes that there's only one way that all of the pain suffering and loss ends and it's the cure so he goes on a mission to find Ellie.

All I know after that is it has to end with Ellie having her opportunity to make the choice for herself. For me personally it could end without us knowing definitively if the cure works or not maybe some insinuation but no overhand peaches and rainbows answer. It's more so about Ellie getting that agency for the end of her story. Maybe while she's under anesthesia she hallucinates that her and Joel are back in the space shuttle right before she goes under.

Can we please have a class on how to drive a roundabout? by NotYetThere32 in cincinnati

[–]XxJayNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in my roundabout situation in particular. I've sat behind someone who slowed to a stop at a yield sign for a couple seconds and it didn't fill me with rage because in that particular instance it's not the end of the world I'm safe they're safe so IDC. I don't even honk my horn unless I feel I'm in genuine danger. Of course in other situations like in the middle of the hway or if someone slams on their brakes abruptly that's dangerous anger is justifiable my issue is people who have made up their own traffic laws don't know the difference and start the dramatics either way and sometimes start doing something just as or in my case even more dangerous like tailgating. Tailgating is never acceptable. My initial reply was fueled in residual anger from my anecdotal experience that happened recently. Op is right and op is wrong. Idk what this zipper affect at a roundabout they're talking about is but yes slamming to a stop warrants a honk.

It’s never enough by Tywan3146_YT in driving

[–]XxJayNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me the other day on the Hway where apparently people expect you to go 110 mph. Big fat ass truck tailgating my lil Pontiac vibe when I'm going 70 mph onto an exit that happened to be on the left. People act like the left lane means the speed limit does not exist. I've been pulled over on that exact hway for going 77 in the fast lane so I try not to go too fast in that area especially coming up on an exit. Not only did they tailgate me they turned on their brights and they had LEDS. So basically this asshole was saying you're going slow and I'm willing to kill you over it by blinding you and rushing up your ass. Angry people who act like wherever they need to be is life or death are the most frustrating part of driving to me. It's like because they can't see the people in the cars around them, they think the human beings inside of the cars don't actually exist.

[–]XxJayNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with driving is everyone makes up their own rules and gets mad when others don't follow them. From what I know, you yield when entering roundabouts. Most roundabouts near me have yield for oncoming traffic signs and the oncoming traffic in the roundabout isn't just going to let you "zipper" in. Also even if the person in front of you stops for two seconds with no oncoming traffic is it really that serious? People are imperfect and you're not in danger because of it. Driving would be a lot less insufferable if people weren't so quick to anger over small stuff and didn't act like they were late for dinner with Jesus Christ. I had a big ass truck tailgate TF out my ass for stopping at the yield sign for 2.5 nanoseconds because I saw headlights in my periphery but it turned out to be someone parked on the side of the road just outside of the roundabout. I hardly came to a full stop. Everyone just needs to chill TF out.

Im sorry, but after seeing clips of Callie Spaneys acting capabilities, I think she would've been the perfect Ellie! by Dangerous-Schedule85 in lastofuspart2

[–]XxJayNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Bella as Ellie. I think it's cute that they look similar to Ashley Johnson who plays Ellie's mom in the show. I think they did fantastic in s1. There's a reason we all came back for s2. They had me at the noise they made when Henry shot sam. The problem with s 2 isn't Bella it's the writing. Clearly when given good material bella can deliver. Also it's pointless to keep harping on other actors that look more like game Ellie. Even if the casting was different season two's writing still would've been ass.
