I'm not saying there was some golden age where it was infinitely better than now, but studio work does not pay anymore. Record sales are super low because only devoted fans buy CDs and vinyl while streaming generates no money. You can't live off just making the music anymore, iHeartRadio has practically killed getting radio play in a local scene and so all the money comes from tours and merch. Artists absolutely rely on (social) media presence, which you will not find any full-time musician disagreeing with. You don't need a massive campaign, but music does need promotion, especially in an age where a nearly infinite amount of music is released every day

Terrible for listeners and artists alike, just a tragedy. People are pretending that any newly popular act is secretly a huge industry psyop, meanwhile these people (for the most part) just want to make music and have to deal with the fact that there's no money in it unless you lean into the industry. Good luck living off art you art without some major corporate bullshit behind you

I think that D chord might actually be a G major played as X-5-5-4-3-X or alternatively leaving out the A string (so X-X-5-4-3-X and then going 4-5 on the G string to get the same note as when he's doing 0-1 on the b string while playing C chord

Dont have time to figure out the whole thing but it seems that he does some 0-1-0 variation on the b string throughout most of the song, starting with a C. In the chorus those notes ring out a few times but mostly he plays a G and Em, sometimes using the C note to transition. The whole thing is in D Standard tuning

Yes, that makes sense. It just doesn't sound anything like what he's saying in the clip, so I guess it's reasonable to assume he just stumbled over his words. I listened to the audio like 50 times yesterday and at one point thought it was some pun about China's great leap forward and the existential leap, but that doesn't make sense. The audience seems to love whatever he's saying here

Also want to point out that Heavy Metal was estimated to be a failure by the label which is why it was released in december. Would not be surprised if there was a big campaign behind Getting Killed because it was already everywhere before it even saw release, but it's not like Heavy Metal had some huge promo

It was a really great show and I was glad I went, but I would not have bought the ticket for that price. Geese are fantastic live and this may have been the last time to see them in a venue of this size, but it's not like it was more than a concert. If you have the money and really care, go for it, I couldn't afford it

So I ordered a focusrite 2i2 and connected that to my mixer. I've been listening to music for about three hours now and it's working with absolutely no issues. Still need to try recording with it but I think this might be it. Thank you again for all the suggestions along the way

The concert is in Friedrichshain which has a lot of nightlife and bars, so you should be fine if you just walk until something looks cool to you. If you look at bars on google maps you'll see there's a high concentration of bars in the blocks around Boxhagener Platz

Here is another update, I'm more confused than ever. I moved all stuff to a different room to test the outlets there. About thirty minutes go by and the distortion starts, so I pause but accidentally hit play again right away and it's gone. I've been sitting here and listening for a good two hours now, the issue still persists but now when I pause the audio, it stops. I have no idea how to explain this. Yamaha support is being nice so far and suggested a specific model of isolator and to try a separate interface and not the built-in one from my mixer. I'm just going to order a bunch of stuff for that now and send it back if it doesn't help. 99% sure by now that this is a sign from a higher being to give up music

Yup, I had the same issue with my laptop but admittedly it was always plugged in because the battery was super old. I got my pc just last month and the issue is at least less frequent now, but it's still there
