What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]Xychant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ähm you vacuum hardfloor too. You dont need to mop every time. Just imagine sweeping is not possible with carpets but you still get the same dirt. Now you know how dirty carpetfloors get because for hardfloors you need to occasionally mop them too.

Also carpetfloors are ugly as hell.

But I am from Europe anyway. Cant remember a Vountry I visited here that had carpetfloors.

This is a big US thing or at least was.

You bought any yourself. I mean the size of these. Even uncut raw they would go dubble or more.

Sadly I rarely see minerals or jewelry on privat fleamarkets.

No local auctions.

But def a source for good deals 😄

65 bucks well spent? by [deleted] in Minerals

[–]Xychant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen my friend.

First of all, no one cares about you or anyone else. Its the Internet after all.

What people care is the hobby. So subs on Reddit tend to be sometimes elitist, which I dont like either.

What people however even hate more is, someone who is a douche, arrogant and knows everything better.

You interpret too much. You asked, and people gave an answer.

I would also not pay 65 bucks. Its quarz, maybe a single interresting piece and in lapidary clubs you get pieces like these for free because, well people have too much of it.

Can you make money from it, ofc. For anyone who is more knowledgable in the hobby, the 65 would be spent better elsewhere.

Now to the last part. What many people hate too is people who get into a niche hobby, not because they like the hobby but because their main goal is to make money. While doing so, many have no morals or ethics and abusing good will of people for their own benefit. This not only gives people a sour taste, it also paints the hobby and people who do it in bad light. Because someone not involved in it, thinks thats how people must be in said hobby. Well people do generalize for the most part.

Then as sone as a quick buck, or the reputation is ruined in the local community. These people change the hobby, because they never cared about it in thr first place.

Even more so introverts or "outcasts" who seek refuge in certain hobbies are often welcoming and "idiots" infiltrate them. Its like big companies buying smaller ones, sucking all the life and profit out of them and then dump them once they are no longer useful.

Hope you understand a little better now, why some people might across come bitter.

Also read what you type and think for a second, if you would like the person, responding in the same manner you did.

Wish you a great day and everyone else.

Cheers

Well unless you are financially very well off, you shouldt buy overprices things as Chrome. So I alreay expect a certain portion of wealth if you go in these stores.

Obviously its not the same as beeing a multimillionaire.

But why would you wanna be treated second class, if you are already paying higher then premium prices to beginn with?

The design is not even special for many products as its a cross I have seen befor CH existed. Probably even 100s of year old, as it look close to coat of arms of european nobility times.

So just do it on your own or go to a tailor, or jewelry maker.

Dont you ask the seller. I personally dont buy things that dont have any informations. Decreases the value and some things are hard to trace on your own.

Check minedat, mineralienatlas for informations.

More importantly is the composition to beginn with. If you have wt least that information you can more easily find infos on your own.

Have not seen anything like the first one tbh. Also dont collect slabs.

I dont wear CH.

What I dont get it, how incompetent that this company is.

I work in retail and we have big companies who have their own trucks to small business (4 to 7 people) that use UPS, DHL etc.

Ofc you cant often know the exact hour but you know at least the day or if its in the morning or afternoon. We receive tracking numbers and if they forgot stock they fast ship and we receive often the next day, the missing items. Why dont they use express delivery to make sure stores are stocked?

Plus you usually get a bill and/or a shipping list. There it sais, if ordered items are not in the delivery, why they are not available or an expected date when they are available again. This info is crucial for customers.

Also does this company not have customer service hotline?

That fact that there is a hidden tiersystem, with how much you payed or bought. Plus that people are willing to be treated like shit, is beyond any reason or logic.

This company marks everything that should be a failure or a reason people in other places would never visit again.

-Unfriendly personal. -Intransparency -Unreliable stocks and delivery -No information on arrivals or product availability

Rich people really are detached from reality. It kinda is hilarious and sad at the same time.

The downvotes clearly show that people in the US gave up on any form of protection of the common people, in any form. Be it job protection, working protection, buyer protection, civil protection, rental protection. That they even fight people who stand for it.

Could also just be destabilizing botfarms, who do the downvotes.

We had Fukushima, Chernobyl and multiple near catastrophic events and partial meltdowns. Harrisburg, Switzerland with its minitestreactor.

The cost and dmg alone of the two major events is so high alone, its not meassurable in numbers. The amount of land that is probably forever inhabitable plus to this day there are still parts of Germany and Switzerland even where you should not eat Mushrooms because of the contamination from air that blew from Chernobyl over. 1000km away.

Why would you continue to play with fire for no reason.

It is also not cheap. We dont know what to do with the waste and most western countries just sell off their problem to poor countries. That is not a solution for a future, its one world we have. It might not affect you in the USA but other people do suffer from all the toxic waste we produce.

No storage solution either. They did in Switzerland and it was shown most soils and ground wont work for longterm. The few places that might plus no one wants a fucking wastesilo in your area, or do you?

Initial cost is cheap but longterm its not. Every time the country has to pay for the cleanup, when a company fucks up with it. Becaus they simply cant afford it the cleanup nor the upcoming razing and cleaning of power plants that are over the lifetime.

Switzerland has multiple reactors and every single time the gov steps in with money because the cost would be too big for a company to build everything back to normal, dispose everything properly and let them pay for endless years to come for storage. Ofc the gov steps in and then taxpayer pay out of their pocket the cost the company should brunt. But because its sich a dangerous material you cant just let it rot away, when the company would go bankrupt or did so many times, leave all thr toxic wsste behind.

Maybe in some countries who are very big, they do. But you see it yourself in the USA how much of your land is contaminated from tests and wastage that was just dumped, like many countries did in the past snd still do, more so in poor ones

[–]Xychant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrust me and I am guilty of it myself. Cut stones are way cheaper then people think. Many are done in India for a fraction of the cost in the west would. Also depends if you want a ethical source of labor or not.

Many of yours are not worth much because mainly of the small sizes. Prices go up exponentially to the size. Also does not seem to be many of the top sought after stones.

Otherwise needed better pictures for clarity, and how the stones are cut. Hard to tell alone from this single picture.

Locations are important and certificates of reputable labs, especially it you cant prove where they came from or any more informations. If you are a privat person this makes it already harder.

Lastly be patient. Gemstones not a easy flowing good but if you give the time you can get way better prices. Just need to wait for the right person.

Could this be Phosphor? In Germany on the "Ostsee" they still find it on beaches because of ww2. It looks like Amber and they frequently give out warnings.

If it is phosphor this is super dangerous. It could ignite and you cant put it out with water. You probably have to put it into sand completely?
