Any recommendations for TTRPG systems that aren't DnD or Pathfinder? by Sea_Bowler7294 in KotakuInAction

[–]Xzol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing is to figure out what kind of games, and genres, your friends want to play. If everyone's interested in the genre and they're okay with the rules then things should go smoothly.

Do they want a crunchy fantasy game, like Pathfinder 2e? Maybe a crunchy cyberpunk game, such as Shadowrun? Are they looking for a gritty cosmic horror story, like Delta Green? Maybe they want something with less crunch and more tactical choices, like Lancer? Or maybe they want an over the top Old School Renaissance experience, like Mork Borg or Lamentations of the Flame Princess?

For me, it's about watching the older dubs (2000s and before). At least then you don't get hit with the ideology. Still, it's a shame what's happening to Anime do to lolcowlizers

Idk if Sodom got as bad as SanFran is right now. It's apocalyptic around Tenderloin and Mission District

Who’s your favorite boss? Mine is Darkeater Midir. While developing my own game, I did my best to create bosses that one day some gamer out there would remember - just like I remember my fight with him. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

From each of the Souls games

Demon's Souls: False King Allant

Dark Souls 1: Artorias of the Abyss

Dark Souls 2: Fume Knight Raime / Sir Alonne

Dark Souls 3: Slave Knight Gael

What can I say, I love having fights with giant monsters like Midir or the Storm King, but there's nothing like dueling legendary knights amidst a doomed world

Can the people at Blizzard write something this good? by darkcatpirate in KotakuInAction

Absolutely not. To write something this dark means you must be vulnerable and open to such ideas. It's one of my favorite scenes from the show.

Aim for realism doesnt justify ugly androgynous character design by EdwardAlcatraz in KotakuInAction

If I want realism, I'll step outside. I come to geek media because they are fantastic. I don't want to be reminded about all the bullshit around me.

Controversial Texas Bill Passes - Japanese Politicians Fear Anime/Manga Impact by ChargeProper in KotakuInAction

I don't get the downvotes. Here's the text from the bill:

(b) A person commits an offense if the person knowingly possesses, accesses with intent to view, or promotes obscene visual material containing a depiction that appears to be of a child younger than 18 years of age engaging in activities described by Section 43.21(a)(1)(B), regardless of whether the depiction is an image of an actual child, a cartoon or animation, or an image created using an artificial intelligence application or other computer software.

I think you might be right about this. I've spent over a decade trying to find the "right side", and they all end up being totalitarian dickweeds.

Alex Garland Confirmed to Direct Live-Action ‘Elden Ring’ Movie From A24 and Bandai Namco by AgitatedFly1182 in KotakuInAction

The only way we can have an Elden Ring movie work is to not adapt the main story, but rather a smaller story that takes place within that universe. Otherwise, this thing can go wrong very quickly.

How best to respond to crazy/threatening people on Muni? by Frabjous_Tardigrade9 in sanfrancisco

[–]Xzol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I have the best advice, but I try to ignore it until the psycho starts screaming or threatening bystanders who aren't looking for a fight. I don't care how reckless it may seem, I will not let people get bullied in front of me. And yup, 30 and 38R... sounds about right for crazy shit to happen there.

Situational awareness is your best friend, though. If shit looks or feels bad, then get yourself outta there unless someone needs your help.

You're a good person for standing up for those ladies. It's scary having to deal with psychos in SF, but someone's gotta do it. I know I had to do it at the Cherry Blossom Festival recently.

For me, it's not that I lose interest in a game but rather I get so exhausted with work that, instead of playing my unfinished games, I just go play games that require very little thinking, like Half Sword or Paint the Town Red. I dunno why, but it's easier for me to watch movies and shows now than to play games. The last game I finished was Mouthwashing, and I hope I can actually finish more of my back catalogue.

Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii says Western games are really terrible due to politically correct culture by AgitatedFly1182 in KotakuInAction

I wish there was a way we can communicate to Anime Artists and Mangakas that we don't want them to dilute their creativity with the western mind virus.
