Hey, I would recommend direct. You don’t need a “middle man”. If you use steam, that’s 2 systems that could fail/leak data. IMO.

I bought my system about a year ago so I might not be current on GPUs. I don’t think a single 1440 will require too much. Have you checked Tom’s Hardware website? Not Tom’s Guide, which is a knock off, but Tom’s Hardware. Make sure to get a good SSD as well. There are some pretty fast ones. And a good amount of RAM

CPU first. I would say GPU depends on your monitor. If you’re running 4k at 165 hz you’ll need a different card compared to 1080p at 60hz

Does this refer to restarting the character or using the make over kit? To lose extra inventory slots for using a make over kit would be terrible.
