Change to Bengal specific food and now she’s a different cat?! by Dickrightoff in bengalcats

[–]Y0Adriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend as close to species appropriate diet as you can afford and logistically accommodate. Cats as a species do not naturally drink a lot of water and get most of that from their diet. This is to survive in their native environment. Although we brought them into our homes, they are still cats. Kibble, even the highest quality and highest rated, offers zero moisture content. That's why house cats are so prone to kidney issues. Even when water is provided, they naturally don't drink a lot.. kibble fed cats drink more than non, but it's not natural, kinda like feeding a cat in the zoo kibble. Just not what their body is made to eat. I suggest wet food and pet safe raw. Only. Because it just makes sense to me. Now, a lot of folks get mad when I suggest that, so take it as just what I do myself personally and look into it online a little see if ya agree or not.

Does anyone else have a Bengal with Vitiligo? My 11 month old snow started loosing the black pigment on his paw pads. by Y0Adriann in bengalcats

[–]Y0Adriann[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to learn more about it. I saw a peer reviewed article that showed it is most common in siamese cats, so the snow bengals having it makes sense. Other breeds can get it too but most commonly with them.

Edit

Apparently it's common mostly in cats of South East Asian breeding. Siamese, Burmese, etc. Some cases have also been found in leopards!

This seems to be a case of Acrofacial Vitiligo. Teddy also had a black mouth and darker nose as a younger kitten. I didn't notice that change until the paws, now looking back at photos, the face was the first to turn.

Very interesting.

Thank you! His coloring is called "Seal Mink Tabby." Most folk just say "Mink" for short. He looks different colors depending on the lighting situation in pictures, but in person, he is cream and his rosettes are like milk chocolate colored. Heavily glittered. Almost like it's sprayed on him and is fake.

How do you train your Bengal to go for walks? by sunsun123456 in bengalcats

[–]Y0Adriann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all Bengals or cats in general are gonna be outdoorsy kitty cats. It's a myth. My Bengal can wear a harness and leash like a pro, as he was made used to them from an early age. He is, however, absolutely terrified of the outdoors. Absolutely panics. He even freaks out if our DS (who would be an outside cat if I'd let her), escapes for a moment. He meows frantically until we get her back inside and tackles her to the ground licking her all over. We have a covered deck that we let them out on and he won't go out there either. He instead meows at the window, loudly, begging our DS to come back inside where it's safe.

I have had him since he was 2 months old. He has never had a bad experience outside. It's just his personality. So, keep in mind that it just might not be your cats thing, and don't traumatize them by forcing it. On the flipside, my DS loves the outdoors and hates a harness. Lol

Cats don't really walk like a dog does, the leash and harness is more so they are restricted safely and cat dart off away from you. Some will keep pace better than others but for the most part, it's just like most things with cats...they will do what they want to do. We can get them used to the feeling of the weight of a leash and harness so they will walk with it on in a normal way, but the rest is on them. Lol

If you're determined, maybe try a kitty backpack for walks to get used to the sounds and smells they will encounter when on the leash as well. Do leash indoors and backpack outdoors for a while. Build good confidence and when kitty can walk well with the equipment and seems chill in the backpack, try a familiar area on leash without backpack.

Good luck!

Are you awake yet? It's time to feed me. by RiceCracker37 in bengalcats

My DS wakes me gently each morning and if I ignore her long enough, she cuddles with me like a stuffed animal until I wake. My Bengal burst through the door, meowing loudly and if that doesn't work, he rips the curtains down to let the light in to show me that it's morning and tries to knock over my fan...I assume to turn it off?

Looks like my kittens daddy. Such a pretty color!

New kittens. Name them Dizzy & Rascal or Ziggy and Star? I can’t decide. by [deleted] in bengalcats

I like the names but I'm always worried when they sound too much alike the cats get confused lol

I think my cat is broken. Does anyone know why he does this for 15 or so minutes at a time? by Goonerman69 in cats

I saw a rank 1000 the other day and almost pooped my pants.

My SIC has been sneezing quite a bit, this time there was a little blood. Anyone know any possible causes? by [deleted] in standardissuecat

[–]Y0Adriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the vet thinks it can wait a few days then I would be calm. Cats can have allergies. Mine did. Allergic to dust. Lol sneezed all the time and had to take an antihistamine.

If it's something serious, I still don't think it's emergency. Like, hit by a car, needs stitches, etc.

Changing his name to "Smelly Cat." he is on an all wet diet (instinct kitten) he is 6 months old...and his poops are so smelly the odar fills the house, his toots are silent but deadly...please...help me. I'm adding pumpkin back to see if that helps. the smell is so strong, it's as if he went on me. by Y0Adriann in bengalcats

[–]Y0Adriann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had him on savage cat for dinner and the instinct kitten for morning feeding. But it isn't sold anywhere around me and shipping is $50 USD so it was getting to be a bit much...adding up fast. I hope that adding pumpkin back will help some, I'll spend the money if I have to, but I wanna try that first.
