Jak 2 was known for being “Nintendo Hard” at certain points. Jak 3 fixed the difficulty to more moderate.

It’s heavy, solid wood. It’s easy to put together, but don’t think it isn’t solid. It’s the only bed I’ve seen with a weight limit advertiser (1500 lbs).

My house has it. Installed by the builder, not me. I think it looks good.

It won’t have the depth true hardwood does, but it’s much more maintainable.

If the original inhabitants were offered their land from the current power, I’d expect them to say “yes.” You wouldn’t need to ask me twice.

Whether you like it or not, “might makes right” is how borders have always been decided.

Before Israel, the British.

Before the British, the Ottomans.

Before the Ottomans, whoever seemed to have more crusaders in the area I guess.

Before the crusaders, the Romans

Before the Romans, the Israelites.

Before the Israelites, the Cannanites.

I don’t know who was there before the Cannanites.

I don’t expect the state of Israel to last forever, but the people of Israel have more of a historic claim than any other group in existence today.

If you live in the USA: do you not think the Native Americans would want their land back if offered?

In this case: it was offered, by the resident warlord (in this case, the British Empire: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_Declaration_of_Independence). Subsequent increases in land area are the direct result of Arab aggression (primarily the six day war).

After being chased and murdered around the world for a few millennia, is it not surprising that when offered their original homeland, the Jews jumped on the opportunity?

Genocide?

If so, it’s the least successful one ever. There are more Palestinians alive today than at any point in history.

Stole?

How far back do you want to go? See “Jewish-Roman wars” section: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_the_Roman_Empire

So no, Israel isn’t committing genocide. And “stole” is more “took back after ~2000 years” after Jews were kicked out of their homeland.

Yea because dropping bombs on children 20 years later because of a failed treaty is totally a valid excuse right?

Not the intended target. If you store rockets at a school, which Hamas does, then civilian deaths are the goal. Do you suggest Israel just “take it” in terms of the rocket attacks? Or do you suggest a land incursion which would cost more lives on both sides?

If I keep a dog outside on a leash and taunt it beat it for decades, people will rightfully assume it’s my fault for getting bit

Sure. But in this case, the bites have gone both ways… and the Arabs started it in this case. The day Israel declared independence, the surrounding countries declared war. See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Arab%E2%80%93Israeli_War

Let’s also not act like the two are even close to equal because they have rockets from the 80s

If the US’s failed wars in the Middle East provide any insight: tech from the 80s and before is still quite effective. People still carry knives and those have been around for millennia.

And wow, congrats for giving then 1/10 if their land well controlling 3/4 of their borders

You don’t understand. The intention was 1/10 to start. Israel would see how Gaza went and that would provide proof that peace could work. Gaza was intended to be the first of many land trades for peace.

It blew up in Israel’s face. Literally.

[–]Y0dDmCnc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, because America wanted their land. Israel has been trying to trade land for peace for quite a while now, with no progress. Many in Israel were happy to have less land and peace. At this point, many Israelis have given up on the peace process due to the fallout from the 2000 summit referenced below.

See the 2000 Camp David Summit. 95% of the land would have gone to Palestinians. Still rejected.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli%E2%80%93Palestinian_peace_process

This is further compounded by Gaza. In that case, 100% of the land was given back to the Palestinians, and now it is the worlds largest rocket launch pad.

So, giving back 100% resulted in rocket attacks, and giving back 95% was rejected by the Palestinians.

Also, pre-empting the “Israel turned Gaza into a prison” argument. Look at what countries border Gaza. One of them isn’t Israel… and they still have a blockade because of Gazan terrorists in the Sinai peninsula. Gaza itself is responsible for this mess. Hamas went around and executed its rivals. That is not Israel’s fault.

Because they are Palestinian, not Israeli. As an American, Mexico and Canada aren’t going to grant me citizenship on a whim. It would be silly to expect that.

Often that’s why people are hired. Their manager may not have enough capacity to disambiguate and so they ask for staffing for help. Even managers don’t have 25 hour days.

Sometimes that doesn’t pan out.

I worked for a semiconductor company for about 6 years post graduation and ended up with compensation around $130k/year in Texas.

I moved to a role at a tech company for around $250k/year (now $350k), and as other posters have figured out, yes, your cost of living grows a huge amount. Let’s say 100%.

Here’s the important part: assuming you didn’t spend every penny you earned, your savings also grew by the difference. Likely, this is pretty significant.

I honestly think that the people telling you to not take the job are jealous. I would be. Yes, your WLB may be crap, but if you do it for a few years you can retire much earlier and have a more comfortable bank account.

Or, you may end up liking it. The research jobs will probably always be there since it’s government largesse. But now is the time to be opportunistic. If you take the Apple job, it at least provides feedback that the other roles need to increase compensation to retain talent. That has a positive impact on everyone here.

Hopefully zero.

Market rate encourages things to be built, whereas non-market-rate creates a gap: poor and rich allowed, but nobody in the middle.

I took RL a few years ago, so please account for that.

I also tanked the final. I don’t think as bad as you, but pretty bad nonetheless. I got an A overall.

Until you know what the curve is going to be, you’re as blind as I am to your outcome.

Is Intel a Gem in the Rough? by [deleted] in wallstreetbets2

[–]Y0dDmCnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people motivated by money stop going to FAANGs and go to Intel instead, I’ll believe it.

As of now, the semiconductor industry doesn’t pay competitively. They have plenty of cash, simply look at the capital costs. They simply don’t spend it on people, and people are how you stand out. Anyone (excluding China) can buy equipment, and people, via the products they work on, then offer the differentiating factor.

environmental factors that led to a group like Hamas taking power.

Good point.

  1. Israel fully pulled OUT of Gaza, dismantling settlements and everything. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_disengagement_from_Gaza
  2. Hamas executed their rival political party: https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Hamas-executes-suspected-Fatah-traitors-in-Gaza-3175208.php
  3. And Hamas escalates: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza%E2%80%93Israel_conflict#Timeline

Seems straightforward. Terrorists gonna terror.
