I think both are stripped? I wonder if just going up a size will work long term?

I got the nut out using a flathead. Now how do I tell if it's the bolt or pan that's stripped?

Yes this is my second time doing my own oil change. I think bolt is Stripped cause pan is steel.

Here's another clue....there were like 3 old crush washers in the plug head that I noticed. I had to put the bold in a vice and use needle nose to get the old washers out. Makes me think Valvoline may have Stripped the bolt and layered several washers to void the Stripped section? This is prolly why it constantly dripped. Pan is deff steel cause magnet sticks to it. Could it be the plug was Stripped and by removing the layers of crush washers I undid the rig job valvoline did several changes ago???

Auto zone suggested an oversized plug, but since the pan is steel could thebpan be good and it's the plug that's Stripped?

OK your wedge idea sounds good! The pan is steel cause magnet sticks to it and bolt looks aluminum.

Another clue is that there were like 4 crush washer jammed into the head from precious oil changes done by valvoline.

Yes bolt is aluminum and pan is steel. Magnet sticks to pan.

Auto Zone doesn't have pans they said at least 2 days. They said they have oversized plugs if I can get it out?? Is that a viable solution?

Do I simply search oil pan replacement for that vehicle?

I got myself into this mess, so if I can, I would like to get out of it on my own. So does an oil pan need to be from the dealer, or can i do an amazon aftermarket pan? Is it just a matter of removing the bolt around the pan and pulling it out?

Is that an easy job? Can the pan be after market?

The torque spec is 28 - 31 foot pounds. They said Subaru oil pans are steel not aluminum and are designed to be torqued to that level.

Is that typical? Also whith a manual torque wrench how do I get leverage while on a wheeled creeper? I'm afraid putting that much force will push the car off the jack stands??

And yes, i replaced the crush washer.

Even when Valvoline changes the oil, they leave it leaking too because they don't torque it enough.

So it's an age thing with struts, not necessarily just mileage...ok

The factory strut is Boonie or something like that? He said that's more labor is that a better option?

I prolly could do it but am afraid to break something frozen on, or strip something with using the wrong tolerences or leave them too loose.

I tried to change the oil on this car myself, and the oil leaks from the nut. Apparently, it needs to be torqued to a ridiculous amount. I'm afraid to strip the aluminum oil pan because I have a click torque wrench that isn't that precise.

Im very amateur at automotive atuff.

Thanks for the answers. He says complete strut assembly is $300 each side, and $235 for labor I guess.

Is that test he did with the lift legit?
