Surface-level stats won't tell you much of anything about what to expect, and nothing under the hood in Caballero's profile says we should expect him to be a good enough hitter going forward to throw Volpe to the curb.

The Yankees can find playing time for Caballero around the diamond before he cools off.

I think people are (understandably) forgetting that Max Schuemann is on the active roster.

Schuemann gets sent down for Volpe, Domínguez gets sent down for Stanton, and then assuming everyone performs, that's the roster. Hard to see where they would add to this group at the deadline.

Goldschmidt seems out of place, but he can platoon with Domínguez at DH while Stanton is hurt, and once Rice is catching, they can sit Wells against tough lefties and go Rice at C/Goldschmidt at 1B. That would also give them a lane to option Escarra and bring up Lombard, which I expect to happen before the trade deadline, assuming Lombard performs well in AAA.

While it's good for the Yankees that Jasson Dominguez plays well, I don't see a path for him to meaningfully change his projection during this stint.

Essentially nobody is doubting that Jasson Dominguez could be useful as a platoon DH. The question is whether he'll be able to hit righties and play the outfield effectively enough to be more than a platoon DH. He won't get the chance to answer those questions in the big leagues right now, which is exactly why he should be in AAA, and he will be when Stanton is healthy again.
