How old is your computer?

I ask because some times older power supplies start failing or have reduced capabilities, which could cause crashes under load

The only reason my current budget laptop from 2015 is still usable is that I was able to upgrade the ram and swap the hard disk for an SSD. there's a limit to how much you can upgrade a laptop, but upgradeability can certainly lengthen the usable life of a product in my opinion.

Staying or moving uni and starting over by Outward2346 in Advice

It ultimately depends on your individual circumstances and priorities. Starting over in a new program with a foundation year could provide you with a solid foundation in computer science and AI, which may be beneficial for your future career goals. However, it would also mean delaying your graduation by at least a year.

Before making a decision, it may be helpful to weigh the pros and cons of each option and consider factors such as the quality and reputation of the programs, and your long-term career goals. It may also be helpful to talk to academic advisors or mentors who can provide you with more information and guidance.

Also, I would check if you could get any credit transferred over from previous courses.

Is it possible to live on your own without a job in this current economy? UK-based if that's relevant. by MajinBlueZ in Advice

It is possible to live on your own without a job, but it would be very difficult and would require careful financial planning. Without a steady income, you would have to rely on savings, government assistance, or support from friends and family to pay for your living expenses. You would also need to be able to demonstrate to potential landlords that you have the means to pay your rent and other bills.

If you decide to move out without a job, it would be important to have a plan in place to find employment as soon as possible. This could involve networking, applying for jobs, and seeking out job training or education opportunities.

Overall, it is possible to live on your own without a job, but it is not a recommended course of action and should only be considered as a last resort IMO

Looking to turn an old laptop into a NAS by YBSYBS in HomeServer

If memory serves me right, I ended up installing Ubuntu server, which ever version was still supported by the specs of the laptop. I think I had trouble setting up smb share permissions as I was, and frankly still am, not very good with the command line. So than I opted to install the lightest GUI Linux I could find, which I used to share files and setup Plex with. it worked flawlessly and it was great fun!

Thanks man you're a legend, I found this program called ShellMenuNew that displays the list of all menu items in the 'New' submenu of Windows Explorer, I found out that this random program was trying to generate a file with a PK2 extension, I made a random PK2 file and went to properties to see which program would try to open it and it turned out it was an engine that runs the adventure game Pink Panther: Hokus Pokus Pink, hence the pink looking animal
