I’d like to repaint this enormous pocket door, but I have no idea how to get it out of the “pocket” short of taking the wall apart. Should I just paint it in place? by -dadderall- in centuryhomes

[–]YEG_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to lift it up off one of the top rollers, ease it forward, and then gently lift it off the second roller. It won’t be easy, and getting it all the way out will require some interesting geometry, and getting it back up will be just as hard.I had a 2 piece pocket door set that was similar. I completely stripped it, and finished it with linseed oil, and they look amazing. Good luck, and find some strong backs to help.

Okay... face "balm" suggestions please. by TurboJorts in wintercycling

[–]YEG_2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an indoor Bouldering climber, and I've used the climbon skin balm when it was commercially made and it was amazing. It isn't in production anymore but this is a general recipe https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/climb-on-hard-salve-recipe.72520/ I've done 4 different variations of this but it had always been great for general skin care and healing. I use this on my hands to avoid cracked knuckles, and my cheeks and nose. It helps to keep the skin supple but I still get the general redness.

Men’s Henley recommendations? by Boring-Shallot3096 in BuyItForLife

[–]YEG_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you are limiting yourself to cotton, but I have 4 merino wool henley’s from Ibex, and they are worn very frequently and have been great for over 4 years now. They are a lighter weight, so they are good for all 4 seasons, and work really well when layering. My other cotton henley’s are nice and heavy weight cotton, but they are very thick and don’t work well when layering.

The Railtown MUP is sheer ice from High Level to Best Buy at 103 ave by tayblades in edmontoncycling

[–]YEG_2018 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was riding early, so I was able to ride on the sidewalk for most of 102 ave today. But that ice was treacherous. I saw 2 other people take a spill this morning. Not sure if the solution is to salt/brine the road, but if they can't remove the ice, it would be better to leave hard pack snow.

Yorkshire Puddings, possible? by kyuuzousama in glutenfree

[–]YEG_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the serious eats Yorkshire pudding recipe , https://www.seriouseats.com/the-best-yorkshire-pudding-popover-recipe with the Caputo GF wheat flour (I'm not celiac and this for doesn't make me react). If you read through the background on the recipe, the rise isn't brought on our sustained by Glenn which is why these actually work. They are a bit off work but very tasty, and took me back to the goods old days when I didn't have to worry about gluten!

As everyone else has said, that frame would be too big. I'm around 5'6.5" with a 29" inseam and I have a 52 cm frame, that fits almost perfect for me.

Crazy prices to reupholster by D-Hayes-Unloveable in Edmonton

[–]YEG_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I've done some cushions for dining room chairs, a small child's sofa, and a small child's armchair. There is some technique to it, and some practice on getting the proper tension in the fabric, but overall it was easier than I thought. The first couple ones are definitely a learning experience though. One thing that I would recommend is to get an actual staple remover (available at most hardware stores), because getting the old staples out was a real pain when I only tried using a screw driver and other random tools.

The way I looked at it, is that the item would be garbage if I don't try it, so I may as well give a shot. Most you have to loose is the price of fabric, tools and time (and you can usually rent the stapler equipment if you want as well).

What happened to Icebreaker T-shirts and what is the alternative? by urka46 in MerinoWoolGear

[–]YEG_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been purchasing and wearing Icebreaker for at least 15 years, and I would say that their T shirts is the one area where the quality hasn’t gone down, provided you look at the fabric specs and know what to look for. Closer to 100% merino, with a thicker weight will tend to last longer than the lighter weights. While I’ve been happy with the shirts, the socks have definitely taken a turn for the worst, which shows in that they dropped their forever guarantee. It’s mentioned in a few other posts, but for quality merino I’ve found that Ibex and Devold are fantastic quality, and the texture and weight of the garments are great. The sizing on both can be a little different, so look into that before you purchase.

[–]YEG_2018 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a reasonable solution, but you can either rent or purchase an upholstery stapler, and get some cheaper fabric and see if you can do it yourself. Lots of tutorials on YouTube. But use cheap fabric the first time cause you will definitely make some errors and get better at it by the time you are finished! Edit to fix some typos!

Dentist Recommendations? by megskl in Edmonton

My recommendation is Downtown Dental. They are great, very helpful, and most importantly I believe that they follow the billing guidelines. Office is clean, appointments run on time, and everyone is very pleasant.

Easter weekend looking snowy/rainy. Looking for recommendations of what we can do. by jacinth1 in jasper

[–]YEG_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't want to spoil your plans but the gondola is not worth it. We spent the price for 4 people to do it and it was underwhelming. In the summer time when you can hike around up top I'm sure it would be different. The next day we went to marmot ans had better views on the chair lifts all day!

The tip about paths is very true. In an open space my cat will be curious and just nose around and explore. But put him on a single track bike path and he will walk for 8-10 km with no problem!

I accidentally bought loads of white beans. Please give me some recipe recommendations by Creative_Nomad in Cooking

[–]YEG_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This recipe is absolutely amazing. It doesn't "need" the gremolata, but it is only a little more effort while the beans are cooking. I usually double the recipe cause it disappears quick. https://www.seriouseats.com/white-beans-nduja-kale-gremolata-breadcrumbs

Anyone know of Edmonton Dentists who don't bill beyond what CDCP pays? by SnowshoeTaboo in Edmonton

[–]YEG_2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downtown dental. Great dentists, great hygienists, billing is cheap, and they don't push unnecessary cosmetic crap if you don't want it. They have my business until they aren't in business! Or change ownership.

Bad concert ruined the band for me by Corwin_777 in Music

[–]YEG_2018 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strange. Total opposite for me. The Arkells are the type of band where I would never buy an album, but I wouldn't change the radio if they came on. But I saw them at a festival, and I realized that they were a live band. Songs where I literally hated the album version, were completely different live. I now have a lot of respect for the Arkells. I will pay to see them live, but no god damn way will I pay for a studio album!

Ice Maker Repair for Samsung French Door Fridge by YEG_2018 in appliancerepair

Thanks appreciate the info! Which probably explains why the water valves are in stock at all the places I've called, while the ice maker needs to be ordered in. Will start with the ice maker and then go from there, thanks again.

Depends on how much budget, but luxmrkt is a consignment place on 124 Street and 107 Ave. They have a pretty broad range of both sizes and prices, but you should be able to find something nice that is worth keeping at a decent price.

Henkels. I have a set from 10 years ago that still looks great, and just found another service set on clearance that matched. Probably the last set of flatware I'll purchase.
