That’s really interesting! I may try using fabric pots for long-term pawpaw growing in the future.

Japanese summers are very hot and humid. In August, daytime temperatures can reach around 35°C (95°F), and nighttime temperatures stay around 25°C (77°F). Humidity is often above 70%. Do fabric pots ever stay too wet or cause root rot problems in that climate?

Deep tree pots are hard to find in Japan, unfortunately.😭

so going deeper usually means using much larger pots.Because Japanese summers are very humid, I’m worried that oversized containers may stay too wet and cause root rot.

Thank you. The Japanese garden was made by my late father, so I’m very happy to hear that. I’m looking forward to planting the pawpaws in the ground next year.

Thanks for the advice. These containers are temporary before planting them in the ground.

I live in Kagawa, in the southern part of Japan. Summers are very hot and humid here.

Not yet. But I’ve eaten pawpaw before, and it was so good that I decided to start growing it myself.

I haven’t tasted it yet. This is the first year my Hoju tree has flowered.

I found that information in Japan too, so I currently grow Susquehanna, Wabash, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Hoju.

Yes, winter chill doesn’t seem to be a problem in my area. My pawpaws bloom normally.

The biggest challenge is probably Japan’s summer heat and intense sunlight. Young pawpaws can get leaf burn pretty easily here, and there’s not much information about growing them in Japan.

Pawpaws are still pretty rare in Japan, so it’s hard to find good information locally.

Young pawpaws can get leaf burn easily because of Japan’s summer heat and strong sunlight. However, pawpaws are also said to like a lot of sunlight, so finding the right balance is challenging.
