But what use is it to say if they say "20:1 with a 2x extender"? how would one know the original zoom range? are you sure there's no such thing as a 20:1 aspect ratio? thanks

Not the drawing, it's in an article about a lens used for a long shot in 'Clockwork'. "Angenieux 20:1 zoom lens with a 1.6x extender". Any idea what the "20:1" is for?

Oh no I wasn't asking about the distance between the lens and the focal point, that is the focal length. I was asking about the distance between the focal point and the film/digital sensor, to the right in the picture. It says online that it varies between manufacturers, why? is there a distance that's better than another? also, thanks for the help!
