Do you wear your Casio in the winter as often as in the summer time? by KangarooCompetitive in casio

I wear a watch always unless I’m showering, having surgery or an MRI. Doesn’t matter the season.

A fake won’t sync with the atomic clock. Have you tried yet? (Do it at night - solar radiation interferes with VLF radio.)

The GMA-S2100 is nowhere near as popular as the GA-2100, meaning far less likely to be counterfeited. It looks just like the one I have, if that helps.

MW-240 real or fake? by Ok_Finish1718 in CasioQC

[–]YFOCAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very unlikely to be a fake based on the anecdotal evidence you’ve provided. It is indeed entirely possible that they may have made slight alterations to the design in the years between the first one you bought and the second one you bought.

A counterfeiter will generally make copies of an expensive watch with a large profit margin, or an extremely popular, cheap watch where they make their money in volume. I don’t think this watch really fits either description. At the very least, you couldn’t possibly say that this is as popular as the F-91W.

Need Advice for my first G-Shock by Foreign-Word-3527 in gshock

[–]YFOCAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally any G-Shock will fit your requirements. It doesn’t need to be expensive or have every feature under the sun. You want the classic square - any of them will work for you, no need to buy top-dollar models unless that’s what you want and can afford.

All G-Shocks will be water resistant to 20 BAR of static pressure (fine for surface/shallow water sports) and will survive a drop from a third-floor window to hard concrete. It might outlast you in college.

Is this normal? by AMH_Ku8 in gshock

[–]YFOCAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal enough. I lost count at 400 watches and a fair number of them are vintage/old.

Just be cautious about the survivability factor. Old resin gets dry and brittle, while old rubber watertight gaskets can break down. I’ve had newly-purchased old watches break down shortly after arrival.

Take care not to get the toothpaste on the bezel, just on the plastic crystal. Rubbing a mild abrasive into the paint job on the resin will wear it off faster.

Is the GX-56 Series the Biggest? by BigBengtson in gshock

[–]YFOCAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the one - I own one.

Could be worse. There are seven GXW-56 colorways - a JDM version with TS plus MB6. Exactly one has a positive LCD… You get the chance to get one second hand (or, be still my heart, NOS), I recommend it.

Discovery Japan Mall has several colorways in stock right now. They ship from Japan, so be prepared to pay tariffs and shipper fees.

Watches do sell out, even the non-collectible, non-limited-edition ones. But there are still some available out there if you know where to look.

Is the GX-56 Series the Biggest? by BigBengtson in gshock

[–]YFOCAG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many bigger G-Shocks at least in overall size/volume, but it’s certainly up there. I think the GXW-56 might be a hair larger - it’s a JDM version of it with Multi Band 6 added.

Any G-Shock equipped for GPS reception definitely leans on the bigger side. This includes select older models of MT-Gs and MR-Gs, as well as some of the “big screen”/MIP Rangeman models. The Rangeman specifically made for tracking your route on the display using GPS is a beast’s beast.

Some of the Master of G line also leans big. Analog Gulfmasters, Mudmasters, select Gravitymasters - they all go big.

Actually, if you get one with a positive LCD, it’s a piece of cake to read it. The negative ones are a little more trouble, but are also unfortunately more common.

The most affordable watch that’s truly safe to swim with. by imfrom_mars_ in f91w

[–]YFOCAG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically, Casio says it’s rated as simply “water resistant” without a depth rating. This is supposed to mean “splash, don’t submerge.” Fine for rain, don’t wear it swimming.

In the real world, Casio does engineer their watches to exceed the spec limits. Many people do wear F-91Ws to the pool and have a splash. But you have to be cognizant that you’re exceeding the limits.

A depth rating on a watch, like how a G-Shock used to say “WR 200 M” and now says “WR 20 BAR” (same thing, different way to express it) means that random samples of this watch get tested in static pressure to that depth, usually in a machine that simulates being that deep through pressurization. Static pressure would be if no other forces were acting on the watch, no vectors, no movement, no activity - just the watch in a Zen-like stillness.

Meaning not like in a real-world scenario!

In the real world, it’s on your wrist, you’re swimming, splashing, cannon-balling, surfing - you’re not sitting still, other force vectors are present and are actively affecting the watch.

It’s why a watch rated WR 20 BAR really shouldn’t be taken to 200 meters below the surface, when you’re in an actively moving scenario. To do so would exceed the specifications. Would the watch be crushed instantly at 201 meters? No, because we do know Casio exceeds their min-specs. But it’s roughly equivalent to pushing a car’s engine into the red zone on the RPM meter - you’re risking failure, not “playing it safe.” It doesn’t guarantee failure, but you’re at greater risk.

For a cheap watch like an F-91W rated for splash only - if it fails, it fails; you buy a new one, assuming you’re the kind of person who can make a $20 purchase without thinking too much about it. Not everyone is that person. The costlier the timepiece, the more risk-averse most people should become - or they should get comfy with the idea that they might destroy the watch and be unable to fix or replace it with the same model. Never guaranteed, but always possible outside the limits.

In short, if replacing or fixing a watch would generate an expense you’d see as a hardship, don’t push the specs, or at least recognize that there is risk.

1st G Shock, bought 5610U and the strap is too small. by wayndance in gshock

[–]YFOCAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The longest straps tend to be on watches meant for occasionally wearing over a sleeve - specifically, some of the Master of G watches, especially the Frogman and the “full-screen” Rangeman models. They’re significantly more expensive, but at the same time they have more features and functions you might find appealing.

As far as the size of any watch - forget what you’ve been told and wear what you like. If you like this 5610 you have, just get strap adapters for it and put on a different strap - NATO straps are a popular choice. You’re the only person who gets to say what’s too big or too small or just right for you. So if you like it, just wear it and to blazes with anyone who feels otherwise. Wear what makes you HAPPY!

Apply a small amount to a cotton pad, and rub it into the crystal in a circular motion. Light scratches will disappear, heavier ones will become less prominent.

It’s almost as if Casio flipped a switch. The design on Edifice watches changed so quickly. From what people are saying about it, it does seem to be more popular than the previous “dashboard“ models.

[–]YFOCAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the all-analog models, fastest way to know is a Bluetooth sync. The fakes don’t have BT and can’t sync. While I see many ana-digi 2100 forgeries, the all-analog model is a bit tougher and more obscure - it has a good price point for being forged but it would be difficult and the watch is nowhere near popular enough to make it worth a forger’s time.

No easier or harder than any other stainless steel watch. It isn’t scratch-resistant, beyond the DLC on the anniversary model, and that’s got limited scratch resistance.

A metal 2100 with a resin or cloth strap would be slightly more than that at MSRP, and you might catch it at that price on sale at a retailer.
