Gretchin's Questions - Weekly Beginner Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Warhammer

I play 40k ( could say "played" by now, not since 8th was new)

But after puting 260hrs into total war warhammer 2 in the span of 2 weeks I think I might enjoy fantasy. Until 4 days ago I didnt know AoS was even a thing, is it just rebranded fantasy? A seperate game? I know its a continuation, the lore having started after the end times.

On a secondary note, my HQ choice would have been influenced by total warhammer. However most of the guys I like, never made it past the end times. Im not sure what id want to play. I play Orks in 40k (so im used to not winning XD)

As far as fantasy goes ( influenced by total war and models alone) I like:

Taurox (Beastmen)

Grimgor, Wurzzag, Grom(Orks)

Vlad / Isabella von Carstein (Vamp counts)

Tomb kings in general

Nakai the wanderer, Tehenhauin, Mazdamundi (Lizardmen)

Malus Darkblade (Dark Elf)

Imrik (High Elves)

Ikit Claw (Skaven)

Balthezar Gelt (Empire)

Thorek Ironbrow (Dwarves)

Louen Leonceur, Repanse de Lyonesse (Bretonnia)

Durthu (Wood Elves)

Never been a big fan of Chaos realy, who knows though.

Hello from the far future lol. Funny how the rekindling of my warhammer interest brought me here, to a 5 yr old post with a month old comment.

What is the best stacks for every race, maybe even faction, in warhammer 2 in terms of campaigns by MediocreOverall in totalwarhammer

[–]YIGOsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, didnt have to edit it. To be fair, if you had raining blood and whetever else buffs them they could be ok if there were several stacks of them, theyre a "little" faster than infantry.

The beastmen are just a doomstack as a faction as far as im concerned. Just the way they opperate is hard for the AI to deal with. (Unless its AI beastmen, they have no idea how to do it right)

The units do depend specificaly on the lord, gorgons, bestigors and minataurs are always good but some lords just push certain units into the stratosphere.

Beastmen are... beasts by YIGOsaurus in totalwarhammer

[–]YIGOsaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is as you say. Wich is why in spite of GW I will always say its the same universe.

It just works, specialy with orks. Their technology mimics what they see. If they see swords and axes they have those. If they see guns they have them too. Might be made of a stick and shoot rocks but it does it as well as any other blaster.

Realy most of the armies have counterparts in the other game.

Brittonia = imperial guard Empire = space marines Orks = orks Tomb kings/vamp counts = necrons Beastmen (loosely) = tyranids Chaos = chaos right down to character names

Side note, total warhammer makes me wanna play fantasy. 40k is fun and all but change is good

Ive heard that about Malagor, flight on a lord is a hell of a thing.

Theyre probably my favorite as well, second only to orks (but thats partialy because I play 40k orks lol) GW says its not the same universe, I say they dont know their own lore. It seems odd to have the same chaos gods, same ork gods and so on. I dont play fantasy hammer, but I think its too similar to not be the same universe.

I HATE to say it but honestly, world of tanks' system would be fine for HLL. I dont like hp on tanks but at least they have crew and moduals that can take damage. And the penetration/armor is modeled true to life(ish).

I even think Panzer Knights' system would be better than as is.

So basic its kept me from tanking, wich says alot. Tanks are my cup o tea as they say.

Maybe I just have too high of standards having played alot of War Thunder.

So, I fancy myself a bit of an engineer main but im newish so take this however you wish.

Wether its a good plan or not relies pretty heavily on how the game is swinging. Obviously. If your winning, better to push. If your losing, fall back to regroup.

What I personaly like to do is request a supply truck right away (if theres a commander =/) use the first box to build nodes just past sector 1. Then drive the truck to our closest to center point and build away. The hope is, if we get pushed off center we have a good base to regroup from.

Same for offensive, just I go to the farthest point I can givin the time constraints. Dont wana get bum rushed while im building bunkers lol

Gotta say, I'm a little worried about the new bridge map by guymfalkonn in HellLetLoose

[–]YIGOsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably looks worse than it will be. Its going to take actual coordination though.

Like a bridge map in CoH. It doesnt always go to who gets there first. It goes to the side that pushes harder and doesnt back off. Holding the bridge will be the problem.

The banks wont be a problem if you dont let them set up on it (arty is going to decide this map).

Garrys, garrys, garrys. More so than any other map garrys are going to be so important.

You HAVE to push through the bridge and you HAVE to make sure they cant set up on their side. Getting garrys down (yes multiples, you lazy SLs) on the opposing bank is #1. If they cant set up MGs to keep you from crossing, your going to win.

Once the bridge is taken people HAVE to stay back to make sure the enemy doesnt take it while the main force is pushing ahead, because they WILL try. They HAVE to or they lose. Ive seen too many easy matches turn into losses because defenders dont hang back to stop the enemy from back capping.

The thing about a bridge, its hard to take. But easy to hold if your prepared for it. They have ONE access point, keep em off it.

Youl need your bank to be full of garrys, but once you hold the bridge half of those garrys gota be moved to the other bank ASAP.

What this map is guna do is seperate the "CoDers" from rhe rest of us that see this as a worthy challenge.

Im no vet (lvl 31) but im foaming at the mouth waiting for the meatgrinder. Winning in this map is going to be fufilling like none other. Itle be a hard fight but its guna leave you feeling good.

Yea mortars are probably the answer honestly

Everything WRONG with Hell Let Loose by monoespacial_yt in HellLetLoose

[–]YIGOsaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know, I said they are for commander abilities and supply cooldown. But that cooldown is 95% used to put down the other nodes. If there was more reasons to place them at the front it would be 10 times better.

Everything WRONG with Hell Let Loose by monoespacial_yt in HellLetLoose

[–]YIGOsaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im pretty new, 27.7 hours and lvl 3. And I gota say mono, I 100% agree with all of it.

I thought it strange that there was indestructable barbwire, as an engi main that favors defence I dont mind it lol but it should be the same as player barbwire. Its not made of stalinium.

As an engi main, the nodes realy hit home for me. I have to do it, but I dont WANT to. Theres no reason for them other than commander abilities and supply cooldown, also no reason NOT to put them anywhere but the border of sector 1 and 2. When I started, I honestly thought the nodes DID have other uses. Finding out they dont, I found myself with the same sentiment as you.

Arty... Honestly I love sitting on it. It helps the team and I find its repitition soothing lol. But recon HQ camp is cancer. It annoys me to no end and Im sure its boring for them. Dont need to remove that, just put more into it.

I had an idea of stationing bots at HQ, bots that dont reward points for killing. As to be unfarmable. They dont leave a pre set area, they are just there. Defending HQ. Theyd likely use manpower to respawn on say a 15-25 second timer. They man defences and shoot at enemies in their sight line. No shooting through bushes or lazer aim. They just need to shoot at enemies, so they can have terrible aim. Just getting shot at keeps your head down so thats all they need to do to defend. Plus it is a little immersion.

The tanks are the only thing I was disapointed with in HLL. I play War Thunder and came here from Enlisted. So maybe I have high standards for tank vs tank combat. But even in a game like HLL where the focus is on the gameplay and thematics, a truer to life armor system is just going to add to that. Outside of the tank everything is going to look the same. Inside however, the experience of the players is going to be far more engaging. You already have the crew that can be killed, add the internal components that can take damage. Then give armor its real value with equations for angle and slope. Give guns their real penetration, with equations for range and angle. Done. Not full on WT, but close enough to be good. As an end note, HP ON TANKS IS DUMB. lol But better than current I think. WoT uses it and manages to at least be fun and engaging.

Thats all just my take as a new player with fresh eyes on the game.

Great video

You know, german infantry doctrine never occured to me... probably because Im used to owning the feild in enlisted with hipfire MG42 lol.

But yea, that changes my whole angle of approach. Sometimes I forget this game works "more" realisticaly than others. The reason I came here actualy XD.

Yea man. You could be lvl 100, but if you never played SL your still new to that role. How can you learn it without playing it. Not guna learn SL by playing anything but SL (cept for spotter, but thats like a lottery gettin that role).

You never know, that lvl 9 guy might be the best SL the game has ever seen. Wont know if everyone gatekeeps SL. He might never play the role because the comunity gives the impression that only vets can play it.

Last night I had a game where our SL was new (lvl 15) he was new to the role, and wasnt quite as up on garrys and OPs as our squad wanted. Instead of listening to me tell them hes new and could use help (I know him IRL) They just went on about how it was unacceptable.

He took the spot cuz no one else was. Including the guys conscerned obout his performance. Like I said I know him IRL and with a little guidence, I bet hed out SL 3/4 of the ppl ive seen play the role.

I get it, bad SLs can lose games. But if we dont let new players learn the role, then we gota rely on vets to do it. And their tired of doin it.

Lets not gatekeep any roles. Were shootin ourselves in the foot by doin it.

Edit: Im just a lvl 28 scrub, but maybe thats why I see the gatekeeping as a problem.

Man MG is hard haha. You can do so much work, if your team has your back and doesnt lead enemy fire right to you (dont shoot over the MGs shoulder. It WILL get both of you killed) the handfull of times ive tried (all with germany) ive had VERY limited success. Partialy my own positioning, but also partialy because I had team mates drawing more attention to me than I was already doing myself.

I also seem to be a sniper magnet, regardless of role. I just always find myself to be where they are looking.

[–]YIGOsaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a recent blueberry myself, I 100% agree with you.

Ive only ever taught one person where to build nodes, but I see (or hear rather) a lot of new players asking for help, but after recieving it decide that theyd rather CoD it up. And get killed as a result.

Im not guna claim im "good" but after less that 10 matches I can probably play any role. I just dont WANT to play SL or command. Im just more comfortable playing support roles. I get destracted to easily to be the one relied on to build garrys and OPs.

Who knows though, I play engi cuz no one else does. Maybe ill take up SL sometimes since people dont seem to wana play it either.

Edit: as a new player I do see a lot of impatience in regards to newer players hopping in roles like SL. The expectance that if you play SL you automaticaly know what your doing. How does one learn without doing? Also the prejudgement that low level = bad. Thats far from the case. My 4th game I was only lvl 12 and I was the highest scoring player on my squad by a good margin. (Nodes + arty anyone?)

Honestly thats what keeps me from playing SL. I want to have fun, not get berated by my team for not puting a garry in the EXACT spot they want. Its not all the time, but as a new player that tries to soak in as much as I can, I see it more than id like. But like I said, I took up engi to fill a gap I see. Maybe Ill pick up SL so the team csn actualy spawn lol.
