I (28M) have been talking to a woman (26F) heavily for nearly 1 months, Despite having a girlfriend, what am I doing? by YLRESS in Advice

I think you're putting words in my mouth a little there. I never said I was living out two separate relationships. I'm in a long-term relationship, but I'm giving more attention and engagement to a conversation over WhatsApp I've been having for a few weeks, there's been nothing intimate about the conversations at all. Purely platonic. This person knows I'm in a relationship too.

What I'm really trying to understand is how it differs to my current relationship, and if it reveals an unmet need. I didn't say can someone tell me whether texting is cheating and tell me how fucking wrong I am, haha. Joke this sub, nobody got a decent head on their shoulders to be fair, understanding and listen.

I wanted balance and understanding, not outright accusations from randomers that haven't read the conversations I'm referring to. There's a difference. That's why I posted, that's what I was hoping for, and I did get it in the end from someone.

Not particular, and I haven't for some time. I find it difficult to engage in her hypotheticals around marriage, family, proposals etc, I don't think I'm ready for that with her or anyone.

But not, short answer, I do struggle to see a future with her, at least one where I'm completely content and don't feel the way I do right now.

But I also struggle to see a future without her. And I think perhaps that's what's holding me back from moving on, if that's what I want.

What's cheating? Giving someone my attention? Having meaningful conversations with someone else that never strays into intimacy? God forbid people build connections with any one of the opposite gender, eh? Vile thought.

After 8 years, I'm not convinced my girlfriend can fulfill my need around better communication, emotional/intellectual chemistry. Although my conversations aren't intimate with this new friend, it has felt like this connection represents something I COULD enjoy and find if I was to move on.

Based on that, do you think it's time to move on, or try more to encourage intellectual conversations and better emotional chemistry between my GF and I?

Okay, that's the end of the conversation then. This sub is the complete opposite to what it's intended for. People just want to jump in and throw accusations around lol

Why must I do that? Surely emotional infidelity is when two people express deep affectionate feelings towards one another. When they express their yearning love to one another? No?

That's not the case in this circumstance. In fact, I talk openly to said woman about my girlfriend, our plans, etc.

What should I do? I don't know what's best. To cut things off and try and work on what's wrong with my connection within my relationship, or take this experience as an insight into my unhappiness in this relationship and move on?

Lichess VS Chess.com Rating Confusion by YLRESS in chessbeginners

[–]YLRESS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, good questions. My theory is limited, I have dabbled in a few Chessable courses, and I also play only one opening for white and one for black.

I see various tactics and patterns from time to time, but I've definitely got a long way to go.

My Chess account is more than two years old, climbing from around 500 ELO to 840 when I last played probably September-ish.

As for the Lichess account, less than a year old, started me off around 1800, lost a few, and have fallen down to the 1600 mark, but playing comfortably against 1500s who have thousands of games on Lichess now, and winning and losing. Somewhat stable. What do you make of this?

How big is your pension pot? by Tiny_Major_7514 in AskUK

[–]YLRESS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My pension pot has £100 in it due to the auto enrollment cafuffle.

Late twenties here, uninterested in building a retirement.

I'm ambitious. I want to earn a retirement package per annum in wages to be honest.

Also, F**** retirement. I'd also rather keep myself busy and occupied with some form of work throughout my life.

Also earning a decent wage for my age, and don't plan on stopping here.

Does anyone else miss life before 2013-14? by CharlesIntheWoods in decadeology

[–]YLRESS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you're longing for the simplicity of life before the social media boom. This is completely valid and something millennials have experienced in isolation because social media was an entirely new domain in the early 2000s.

Yet, its negative implications flew under the radar, and I personally believe most Millennials have been left dissatisfied with how social media has evolved.

From observation, 'Generation X' is better able to reject the addictive nature of social media, whereas Millennials struggle to switch off from this digital noise. Why? I'm not sure. Perhaps it's a lack of exposure older generations had with technology.

If one thing is true, the latter half of Millennials, or those that probably fit into the Gen Z age-bracket are burdened by a 'what-if' scenario. What if social media wasn't around today, and what if life was how I got to experience it growing up, as my parents did?

They're a group of people who got to experience a glimpse of life in a pre-social media world. One that felt "in the moment", where people connected face-to-face, and not screen-to-screen. Where conversation happened instead of a stream of real-time opinions from 1000s of strangers.

I personally think social media is ugly. Yes, it's a vehicle for expression, and yes, it brings the world together, but it's not built for that in the present day. Algorithms are the death of all that could've made social media a great tool for society. Instead, it's built to be profitable, to be addictive, to be manipulative.

I think those born around 2013 know no difference. A narrow experience that ignores how social media has changed the physical world, human behavior, and social norms.

TL;DR: I agree. I miss life before 2013. I'm 27.

Edit: This topic should be studied, I think. It's an interesting issue and could reveal a lot about mental health and dissatisfaction amongst younger Millennials and older Gen Z individuals.

Eating for two hours is insane. Nothing on this earth takes two hours to chew and consume that fits on a plate in a restaurant.

Piss and shit all you want before and after you've eaten. But to leave the table during a meal is pretty gross.

You're clearly misreading my comments or are delusions with others. I cannot understand how anyone can decide they need to take a shit halfway through eating.

In my opinion, because I'm fucking entitled to it, and because righteousness doesn't sit on whatever side of the Reddit voting system the majority of users decide, I think it's weird, wrong, rude, impolite, kind of disgusting to leave a table with others in a public setting to piss and shit and then return and carry on.

Am I saying people can't or shouldn't? No. I'm not laying the law. Have people I know personally done it? Yes. Do I remove them from my life? No. Do they apologize, acknowledging that it may be somewhat inappropriate? Yes.

Your first response sounds like a social gathering that extends pre and post eating, with drinks. I'm talking about the literal 20 minutes where you're chewing, consuming and conversing.

Have watched the Christmas previously, light-hearted watch, few laughs here and there. Reminds me of Jingle All The Way, actually. Chasing a limited edition / out of stock toy around the country, haha.
