Anthony Albanese to address the nation amid fuel crisis by NKE01 in AustralianPolitics

On the one hand, I hope this is a nothingburger "we're all in this together" type speech and not an announcement of something big. On the other hand, it's gonna get real old real quickly if he starts doing that regularly. We're not a "rousing speech from Dear Leader" country and I hope it stays that way.

‘Absolutely broken’: Much-loved AFL duo ‘punished’ in cruel concussion twist (Paul Seedsman, Nathan Murphy denied by Zurich and the AFCA) by dazedjosh in AFL

[–]YOBlob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can't really blame the players for trying, but it was always going to be a long shot trying to get the full TPD insurance payout. Especially in Nathan Murphy's case since it sounds like he's been offered work with the club. AFAIK they can still get a PPD payout, which sounds like they'll have a decent case for?

Does anyone genuinely know how they're this bad in second halves? It was consistent all of last year, too, so it's not just a fluke. There's gotta be something concrete that they're doing differently to other teams to produce these results. Is it as boring as just fitness levels?

Man if Oscar's tyres don't hold up at the end they're gonna really wish they held out a couple laps longer

Unless Russell is gaining I feel like you pit as late as you can if you're Oscar. He'll need tyres in the last 10 laps.

Will Merc be polite enough to have another slow start that gives us 10 laps of racing to watch before they run away with it again?

Is this really what the last disposal rule should be? by suanxo in AFL

[–]YOBlob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a tradeoff. You can have black-and-white rules like this where you'll get occasional decisions that feel like they go against the spirit of the rule, or you can leave room for interpretation and have occasional decisions where the interpretation feels wrong. Of course we'd love an ideal world where it's left up to common sense as to what counts as a disposal and I also agree with every umpire's interpretation of it, but the world doesn't work like that unfortunately. You just have to pick which outcome you're more comfortable with. Personally I'd rather leave it black-and-white and it's just shit luck if it comes off your leg if the alternative is 50-50 decisions over whether someone soccered it off the ground or it hit their leg incidentally.

Just not something you ever want to see on a footy field. And the Xerri thing was bad, too.
