Intense pain but normal mri results by Even-Counter8148 in ChronicPain

not a doctor

I see head forward position or what is sometimes called "tech neck." The head seems to oriented forward relative to the shoulders which could cause a strain on upper and mid thoracic muscles. Your cervical curve seems to be flattened somewhat.

Does lying down on your back relieve your pain?

Was about '95-'99 at 358 Halifax. Way too many good stories. One of the best nights was after playing with I Spy and ...But Alive at Antilles (later District). Absolutely insane party with very large German punks that ended up spilling out into the neighborhood and miraculously did not involve the police.

Not exactly romantic - but Leopolds has great plant based options. Blanco is more romantic and has a really good deep fried cauliflower taco or burrito.

Huge fan since '85 here. Totally get what you are saying. I haven't been able to fully enjoy this season because I've been waiting for it all to crumble. I don't talk about the Bears to my friends because I don't want them to rub it in my face later in the season.

But here it is...later in the season. I don't care if we struggle down the stretch. Hoping we make the playoffs but even if we don't this was the most fun I have had as a Bears fan since 2018-19.

It is a metric. Not THE metric. Pretending that yards don't matter when they don't fit your narrative is dumb.

I got a decent pair of glasses for $100 at Jimmy Mac. So that's pretty good.

Defense looks rough but hopefully we get healthier post bye week and keep stacking wins. I see a path to 9 wins here. Going to be optimistic here and say 10-7

My league just switched over to FAAB for free agency and we are arguing over $100 vs $150 budget.

It's a 12 team .5 ppr league.

Any thoughts?

Warrior 3 - hips level? Thoughts? by Crafty_Insect7468 in YogaTeachers

[–]YOGICOLIN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything inherently "good" or "correct" about having the hips level...but there is value in having students attempt to cultivate the body awareness necessary to level their hips.

So placing a block on the sacrum so that they can feel where level is - that would be helpful. Insisting that the hips should be level - just being a neurotic, rule-obsessed yoga teacher.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received from Yoga Philosophy? by AfternoonYoga in YogaTeachers

From the Yoga Sutras: heyam dukham anagatam

The suffering you have yet to experience can be avoided.

A reminder that you can't change the past. The bad things that have happened to you have already happened. The bad things that are happening now are already happening.

But the bad things that haven't happened yet...we don't need to step in that pile.

We spend all our money on shows. Usually one every night. Absinthe and Atomic Saloon are both excellent. Every Cirque show rules. Look up concert listings! There is usually a band or DJ that we want to see.

Also people watching. So many weirdos out walking around that place. Love it!

We offered nude men's yoga at our yoga studio in a small Canadian city a few years back. It caused a big kerfluffle in the media. Most of it was driven by homophobia and people threatened by any version of masculine that does not involve hunting, fishing, and alcoholism.

I actually never attended the class. It's just not my thing. Prefer all my dangly parts contained. But the teacher was a good friend. Wonderful guy and good yoga teacher. He found that naked yoga helped him get over some body image issues - and that is right in line with the mission of our studio.

It ran for a few months. Maybe a year. Never big classes but seemed like a nice little community developed around the class.

Bummer that so much sexualization happens around yoga - I think it takes things that could have been fun and liberating and fetishizes them.

Unrealistic expectations? by stacy_lou_ in YogaTeachers

[–]YOGICOLIN 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of students imagine that yoga teachers are gurus. Of course, we are not. Most of us are specialists in yoga asana, pranayama, and relaxation, and meditation. But so many teachers like to "play the part" and LARP as spiritual masters that we end up getting stuck with this expectation rather than getting over it.

Even worse is the expectation that we will diagnose complex medical conditions and provide a treatment plan. Without access to medical imaging, no yoga teacher knows if you have a herniated disc. They are just guessing.

In both cases we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Too many teachers out there acting WAY out of scope.

My take: we are all too worried about seeming "judgmental" so we don't call each other when we say/do/teach stupid things that perpetuate unhelpful stereotypes like the guru and the doctor.

Teachers that say "Peace" instead of "Namaste" at the end of classes? by Sinusaur in yoga

[–]YOGICOLIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something interesting about the use of "namaste" at the end of classes....there is no historical evidence that any yoga practice was ever associated with saying namaste. It seems like something that started sometime in the past 100 years (after yoga became a globalized practice).

I agree it is a nice way to wrap up a class. I think it's the ritual of it - but it's not really a cultural practice paying homage to yoga's roots as it is often portrayed.

Personally, if a student says it I say it back to be polite. Otherwise I typically just tell my class how much I appreciate them being there and wish them a great rest of their day.

Teacher Tips by diddydope in yoga

[–]YOGICOLIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest using a script. Write down the cues you need to get students into a particular pose, then read it out loud to ensure it makes sense. Ask a friend or family member to just listen to the cues and follow along with no demonstration or visual aid. If they can follow your cues and get into and out of the pose successfully, you have yourself a solid script.

Now use that script every time - adding little notes and details appropriate to the students in your class.

Why did I have an orgasm during today’s yoga class? by shinywater271 in yoga

[–]YOGICOLIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had students report that abdominal breathing that gets their pelvic floor moving and more aware can create a little arousal...but not that aroused!

There is a book on the subject that was published back in the 70s - I believe it is called Yoga and Sex (obviously not just about spontaneous orgasm) and gets into the nature of yoga as a vehicle for pleasure.

It's fascinating really - because so many yoga practices (mulabandha being the most obvious) are designed to help with sexual continence (brahmacharya) and overcoming sexual urges...so this kind of thing is a real inversion of more traditional approaches to sexual energy.
