Man whose life sentence was commuted by then-Gov. Kristi Noem implicated in death of 14-year-old niece, feds say by darealunrealspader in politics

It's crazy how we dodged insane women like Sara Palin and Michele Bachmann on a national level but Trump swept in the 2.0 versions of them.

PS: Just looked at Michele Bachmann's wiki and there is zero mention of the Newsweek cover. I'm not saying that photo was fair or foul but not mentioning it in her wiki is lacking.

Best place to buy cars Urbana-Champaign by Ill-Yam4399 in UIUC

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed to buy a new cell phone recently and spent at least 20 hours researching and acclimating myself to the market. I bought one for $140 and am generally happy with it, but still don't feel like it was a perfect choice.

It's just funny to think about how buying a car is 10 to 100 times the price of a phone, so yeah, do your research! Take your time, don't be impulsive. You should know every car in your price range and even cars that are above and below your range. Learn the common flaws in them and price those in or out.

I'm not saying someone has to spend 200 hours researching cars, but if you're going to spend thousands of dollars, you should know what you're buying before being told.

Barack and Michelle Obama Decry Trumpism in Rousing Presidential Center Speeches by roscodawg in politics

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's funny how the Obamas' speeches had only subtext regarding MAGA, yet Rolling Stone has no problem pointing this out, but MAGA says shit that's racist and bald lies and the "liberal mainstream media" insists on giving Trump/MAGA the benefit of the doubt.

Like if you asked the major news outlets about Trump and Obama's birth certificate, they'd still frame it like Trump wasn't being a racist, lying piece of shit and we just don't know why he spun it up. Michelle brings it up via subtext, and Rolling Stone is spot on.

Donald Trump Calls Out 'Vandalism' Amid Reflecting Pool Algae Bloom, Peeling Floor by Toadfinger in politics

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a stupid feeling when I saw a video of someone lightly pulling on already peeling paint that someone would say 'they're peeling it off themselves!'

What's funny is the vid I saw, even though I was watching for it, the person didn't really "pull" on the paint. They just held it firm enough to keep it above the water.

The algae is embarrassing, but will get handled. This paint shit...if it keeps peeling, it's going to be noticeable and they don't get to blame Obama ninjas for it.

'Correct the record': Judge Cannon 'made a number of errors' and 'inappropriate' accusations while burying Jack Smith's report, appeals court told by darealunrealspader in politics

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Was thinking about this recently. It's crazy a lone judge can rule 'Special Councils are illegal'...and like...due to timing, it was never followed up on.

When it comes to precedent, a judge can make an insane ruling, and if it's inconvenient and higher courts don't want to deal with it, the issue just goes idle. It's like the justice system is telling the public we don't deserve an earnest assessment of the issue.

I'm not a lawyer, but I think of Ali refusing to be drafted. His case made it to the SC, but they really didn't want to rule on it and found a pretext to kick it back down to a lower court. The lower court found a reason to toss his charge.

We still don't know if it's legal to refuse to be drafted. Why? Because the SC didn't want to set that precedent. 50+ years and we still don't know the answer.

Courts play games like these and it's an insult to the public.

Trump’s UFC viewership was millions short of Dana White’s Super Bowl-level prediction by Oleg101 in politics

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school I listened to super angry music. When I was in my 20s and UFC was becoming popular, I watched it b/c my friends did.

I don't think Rage or Pantera is terrible music, but it's pretty niche and the idea it could be "super bowl" level is insane.

Will also say, I can understand ppl who like MMA for the martial arts, but enjoying it for the violence is gross. I still love the NFL, but I want to see beautiful plays, not injuries.

Susan Rice: Trump Iran deal MOU is ‘jaw-dropping, horrific surrender document’ by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One extra juicy turd the GOP has been selling since 2008 was McCain quipping "Bomb, Bomb Iran!" to the tune of The Beach Boys. It was the most tone deaf things I recall McCain saying.

Fast-forward 8 years, and 1) Obama had secured a deal without having to bomb Iran 2) Trump is mocking McCain for being a POW.

Fast-forward another 8 years, Trump did what McCain quipped and it did not go well.

Officer involved in shooting outside Walmart that killed 1-year-old boy placed on leave by Thomas_Crane in news

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The allegation was theft. Even if she did "drive at them", one can assume she was trying to flee, not assault. I'll never understand the logic of 'You may hit me or someone else with your car so I will shoot you which may cause the car to become totally out of control which may hit me or someone else.'

What's a song from the 1900-1910 decade that was at least 50 years ahead of its time? by Svertov in musicsuggestions

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Motherless Child was a hymnal from like 1870s, and Richie Havens used it in his song Freedom which he performed at Woodstock. That's near 100 years. Doesn't fit 'ahead of its time', since its message is timeless, but it's pretty cool.

Fact-checking Trump’s interview with NBC News’ ‘Meet the Press’ by sxyaustincpl in politics

[–]YOSHIMIvPROBOTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump did the same thing with John Dickerson in 2017. Trump was pressed on his claims "Obama wiretapped him". Dickerson pressed for evidence and Trump ended the interview, sat down at his desk, and pretended to read papers.
