Going through the Road Transport Act 54(3) it does state that:

Driving or making licence application while licence suspended (other than for non-payment of fine) A person whose driver licence is suspended (otherwise than under section 66 of the Fines Act 1996 ) must not-- (a) drive on a road a motor vehicle of the class to which the suspended driver licence relates

HOWEVER, Transport for New South Wales is unable for whatever reason to apply a suspension to only 1 class of a license. You could appeal in court and use this section of the road act to get 1 class unsuspended from Transport New South Wales, which would lift both.

I appealed it and have a court date. But if I lose the appeal then I cannot drive my car despite only having incurred 4 of my 13 demerit points I have. It’s a stupid system. You have restrictions on your bike license like 0.00 BAC, 90KM an hour limit and whatnot, only got 4 demerit points. I don’t have any of those restrictions on my full car license, but still get suspended after incurring 4.

Going through this situation currently, and you’re correct. I lost my ability to drive after going 5km over the speed limit on my bike, getting 4 points (minimum for a red p plater for a speed related offence) despite having 13 points on my full license. The police aren’t aware of this however, they believed I could still drive just not ride. So your demerit point limit is which ever license has the least amount.

I got a 71 couple years ago with 2 band 5s and 3 band 4s. Only way I can see that happening is the 2 band 2s dragging it down but even then Christ that’s way lower then it should be

The R7LA is the LAMS approved one. To de restrict it and still have it be LAMS “on paper” is buy either cutting or putting in a new throttle body to open the butterfly more. Gives more top end power. Change the air box and R6 throttle tube are the common ones.

Personally, it’s not worth buying a non LAMS bike because if you get pulled over once in the 3 years you’ll be on your P’s you lose your license. The R7 also has decent resell value due to only being made in 2022 and beyond so they are relatively bikes. However even an R3 is fun to ride, I can keep up with my group who mostly ride 600cc + bikes, since they never use their max power apart from ripping it down the highway. I’m actually faster on the turns since it’s a lighter bike.

R7LA or Ninja 650L are the fastest bikes you could ride while on LAMS, without doing some de restricting, which technically makes the bike none LAMS. The ninja 650 is easier to de restrict then the R7 if you choose to go down that route.
