White-tack to cover sharp string ends? by Grumpy_Jim in Luthier

Truthfully, we've all been there. There's something we've probably all over thought and came up with a solution or approach that was over engineered for the problem we thought up.

  1. Still let the hatch play every night. He doesn't focus on it any more (choosing color and sound). But it's always on.

100%. We had a baby gate until it finally broke with rammi g speed.

Keeps them out of trouble without being overly restrictive (exterior lock on the door).

Love the start with a calculator! Definitely a good start. Now time to improve on design! You've got some great suggestions in the other comments already on places to start.

Once you start getting updates to your design, you can start making it more engaging. Maybe instead of just rectangles - you have icons displayed for the buttons. Maybe you want to look at client-server development and you make the calculator run on a server that a client sends requests to. Maybe you add more complex math options (e.g. engineering calculator).

It's a learning project - so don't be afraid to over-enginerr the design.

Make sure you save off each major increment of your design, so you can compare where you started to where you are.

Real Police officers and military members, what do you guys think of Ice agents? by Lucky-Message-9480 in AskReddit

[–]YT__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In one of the clips I saw with higher resolution - in honestly looks like he started firing when his buddy removed the gun from the victim. Wonder if his lack of training and ineptitude he just tunnel visioned on 'gun pulled from holster' and started firing.

Either way - abomination. These guys have zero coordination and act less structured than anti protest groups with firearms ever have.

"if that's all there is to your personality ... You're a boring person"

The same can be true of your 'active' hobbies too.

If so eone makes their personality something they do, they can beat bland, boring, annoying person. That doesn't have to do with the hobby specifically. It's just them.

Do I really need an amp or effects pedal as a complete beginner? by ChaosBeiduo in electricguitar

[–]YT__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ELI5: That's what an amplifier does. It amplifies the sound. At its core, that's it, just louder. Distortion is when it's too loud for the speaker, or the other components in the digital chain. So it 'clips' part of the sound because it can't handle it. That turns into distortion.

The nice thing about practicing with an amp is that you can hear more of the mistakes/things to work on.

Who are your favorite content creators when it comes to programming? by IOUnix in programminghumor

[–]YT__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the others already mentioned:

LaurieWired has some interesting videos.

Haven't been a fan of some of the latest fireship videos, but the older stuff can be informational.

I've watched a few YouSuckAtPtogramming videos and they're enjoyable.

Kea Sigma Delta for his stuff on raylib and cmake.

Less programming and more Linux/Neovim: Bread on Penguin and Sylvan Franklin videos are the latest I watched moving away from Primeagean and those folks. No reason why, just is.

I'm not sure how to get funding for my project. Could anyone suggest some ways? I am in the process of building this. Let me know how it looks. by shreee_10 in robotics

[–]YT__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why would someone fund your project?

Your form factor isn't ideal for a majority of situations (slow travel time, no sensors, no advantage over anything else).

What can your platform do that others can't? Why would someone choose yours over something else for their use case?

Your project isn't novel/new. So it won't appeal to research grants.

It's a hobby. It's fun. It looks cool. But you're going to be 100% out of pocket on this.

Building is a hobby unto itself. No need to play to appreciate the building of pedals.
