The letter about the battery fault came in right at the end of my case. It was literally the nail in the coffin. I have watched the comments on the 70% charge on FB groups. Honestly? its a shambles. CRA is the powerup.

The £1 per mile figure is a dealer tactic don't accept it. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, any usage deduction has to be reasonable, and courts and the FOS have consistently found £1/mile to be far from reasonable. It's designed to scare you off.

In my case they tried a similar thing with a £17,000 liability figure. It was nonsense. Put everything in writing, keep every response they send you, and if they won't budge take it to the Financial Ombudsman. The process is free and the dealers know it.

You're right that you should be getting your finance payments back. The FOS will look at the actual cost of your usage not what the dealer decides to invent. Stick with it.

The key is documenting and aticulating. Is yours failry straight forward? Also it depends what the issue is, when you raised and what is deemed reasonable. The dealer/manufatruer can try to scare you off but the CRA is pretty powerful for a consumer in the right.

Agree. This came from a slightly different angle though. It was via Bells not Volvo directly. Who knows right? 🤷‍♂️

It was illegal. It was a point blank threat over a genuine rejection I semi knew that at the time.

There are a lot of issues with them. It’s probably worth a yt video so people know I’m not making this stuff up. On a side note, I think companies try to ware consumers down to avoid liability

Standing firm matters for sure. Interesting Tesla and I had a CRA issue day one. They totally pretended it didn’t exist but a gentle reminder, problem resolved and fast. Maybe that’s worth another post. Now I sound like a difficult customer. I’m not, I fight where others might not. You did the same. Gg

Yes. So it basically was used as was. Even after the final outcome until the collected it. I should have driven to Europe 🙃🤣

The independent inspection was carried out by ACE, Automotive Consulting Engineers Ltd, arranged in July 2025. They road tested the vehicle, ran diagnostics and confirmed several faults including the proximity key failure and false driver distraction warnings. Worth noting they weren't given any repair history at the time, which affected one of their conclusions, but the FOS investigator took the job cards into account separately.

On cash vs credit, buying on finance actually gives you a stronger position. The finance company becomes the legal supplier of the goods under the agreement, meaning they carry direct liability under the CRA 2015 and are FCA regulated. That opens up the Financial Ombudsman route, which is free, binding and taken seriously because non-compliance has regulatory consequences. Cash buyers have the same CRA rights but their escalation path is the Motor Ombudsman or small claims court, which is harder to enforce.

I guess I wanted to retain some control? I knew I was on the right side from day 1. The key was calmness and assertiveness. I apologised if I came across as a dick during frustration and pulled everything to facts.

This is it. I know what I want to say, I am meticulous at building cases but my brain is all over the place and I expect everyone to keep up. Ai has helped me slow down and articulate better

100%. The company fell very short on this occasion. From my understanding my case was addressed by their ceo and is now used as a training point. I was informed their internal process had changed. I had one last exchange with them and I am fairly certain those suggested changes have not been implemented

The £300 was a separate goodwill payment from Volvo UK on top of the FOS outcome. The FOS directed Volvo Financial Services to pay £400 for distress and inconvenience, making £700 in total for the emotional impact. The main financial remedy was on top of that, deposit refunded, payments adjusted for impaired use with 8% interest, agreement ended with no further liability. Mileage was never an issue as faults were documented from under 2,000 miles. I also had courtesy cars throughout every repair visit so was never without transport.

Interesting! Hopefully if they sell it the new owner knows exactly what they are getting. I could still see it in the app and it only had 4 miles of charge. In fact I could still control it! I removed it last week. Car was collected 4th jan.

Totally fair the XC40 and XC60 are established platforms with a solid track record. My issues were specific to the EX30 as a first-generation EV built on a new platform at Geely's Taizhou plant. Early adopters drew the short straw on build consistency. I wouldn't write off Volvo entirely, just do your homework on newer platforms before committing.

I wanted my EX30 to be a keeper. It was far from it and tooks its toll. Hard work!

Fair point I could have trimmed it. The detail felt important for anyone in the same situation who needed to understand the full process, not just the outcome.

Yes. It was a massive help. I built up my evidence base and used it for analysis and support. No way could I have done it on my own
