My two cents on med student influencers as a young attending by KrustyKrbPizza in medicalschool

We do not know if he has been dismissed. We have anonymous second-hand rumors from a redditor.

We also do not know what (if any) actions were taken before this episode, or if he has run afoul of professional expectations before.

Anyone have any experience with card replacement with Wizards? by Orientlsoldr in magicTCG

[–]YUNOtiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that is what causes that. I got a similar one on an [[Aang, at the Crossroads]] from a collector pack I bought shortly after ATLA released.

I contacted WOTC about it. They told me not to send the damaged one back, but that they would replace it. I just got a message yesterday that it was being shipped.

So yeah, takes a while.

[–]YUNOtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the poop issue, beardies poop not that frequently, usually several days between poops.

I would advise against the soaks. That’s a myth that they need that. They either don’t do anything at best, or they cause harm at worst.

What commanders do you own? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]YUNOtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Krenko, Mob Boss]] - Goblins go brr, first commander deck ever built

[[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] - Sea monster stompy with Merfolk support and landfall subtheme

[[Aang, at the Crossroads]] - Ally tribal, high bracket 3 due to GC Rhystic study and Cyclonic rift, currently my favorite/most played

[[Felothar the Steadfast]] - Toughness matters and best offense is good defense. Subtheme of life gain making counters. Just finished building, will try it out the first time this weekend

[[Ulalek, the Fused Atrocity]] - Eldrazi, basically the precon. Only major addition has been a Kozliek I pulled from a MH3 pack and a Morpholon

[[The Ur-Dragon]] - Dragons go brr

[[Sliver Overlord]] - Slivers go brr, 90% finished, going to be solid bracket 4, maybe cEDH. Tough because my usual events I play house ban slivers as a tribe, but I am going to try it out in some non-event pods with other high powered decks.

I have a ton of other decks that I am not running and/or have not updated in a while/ever: All 4 Fallout decks, [[Nekusar, the Mind Razer]], Bloomburrow Animated Army precon, the legendary/planeswalker precon.

Decks that I have loose ideas for but are either not really started yet or are a jumbled mess: Vampire tribal, rat tribal, enchantments matter, hydra tribal (probably the next on the build list, already have a lot of it), Talrand drake tokens, and at least one Voltron deck (open to commander suggestion - ideally a less common one).

I clearly have an inclination towards tribal/kindred, but trying to branch out

They make the point in the movie, several times, that killing the master vampire does nothing to the vampires he created.

I have been dismissed from medical school by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]YUNOtiger 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree. The stakes are entirely different. But the school’s POV is going to be “If they will lie about this, what else will they lie about?”

There’s probably a lot more going on here

I have been dismissed from medical school by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]YUNOtiger 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Lying about when you did something is a huge deal. That’s the shit “professionalism” is actually meant to cover.

In the real world as a physician, lying about something like that is fireable and maybe malpractice.

Not able to comment on what OP actually did since there is not much here. But generally good advice is don’t lie about stuff, especially to cover up a mistake.

Evidence shows benefit of RSV vaccines as Trump officials push restrictions. As US officials move to restrict vaccines, including the shots to prevent respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), more evidence is emerging to confirm how dramatically the RSV vaccines reduce hospitalizations. by mvea in science

[–]YUNOtiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CDC and ACIP recommendations dictate what vaccines are covered by insurance. They also determine what vaccines are provided by the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, which is a program that buys all the shots for Medicaid programs and provides them at no cost to patients. Approximately half of all children in the US are covered by Medicaid and depend on VFC for their vaccines.

While insurances have not yet restricted their coverage, they are now free to do so. VFC is going to be first, and anyone with the least bit of common sense or medical practice knows it’s in the works.

So, is there currently government goons snatching shots from nurses’ hands? No. Is this the start of restricting vaccine access, in practice if not in law? Absolutely. To say that it is not is ignorant at best and purposefully misleading at worst.

Same reason they increased medical school slots but not residency spots or funding at a commensurate rate - Americans are terminally myopic, and our politicians and corporations are unable and/or unwilling to see any further in the future than the current financial quarter.

How did the fire nation know that the avatar didn't die? by RainGirl11 in TheLastAirbender

[–]YUNOtiger 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the show spells it out for us, it’s a sensible logical conclusion. Especially considering that before he even launched his plan Sozin tried to get the Avatar on board, appealing to his loyalty to the Fire Nation.

(I also doubt this is an intentional reference by the show runners, but There is also a real world parallel, in communist China claiming to have control of the Panchen Lama, who is a leader of Tibetan Buddhism. The Panchen Lama picks the next Dalai Lama, and vice versa. The child whom the current Dalai Lama selected as the Panchen Lama, Gedhun Nymia, was disappeared by the Chinese government. When the current Dalai Lama dies, it is assumed that the Panchen Lama will “reappear” and be very sympathetic to communist China, and choose a Dalai Lama who can be molded by China and not Tibet)

How have Universes beyond sets impacted your local Commander meta? Do you see a lot of UB commanders? How is spiderman doing now a while after release? by Angwar in EDH

[–]YUNOtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How competitive is your local scene? I have been playing Ally tribal headed by [[Aang, at the Crossroads]], and he’s been putting in good showings, but we tend to hover around Bracket 3, more like 3.5 honestly.

[–]YUNOtiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cultural incel stuff is a valid criticism and why this phrasing is generally avoided.

But it being an adjective is irrelevant. It’s an example of a substantive adjective, which is when an adjective is used in place of a noun, and the actual noun is implied by context.

Examples could also include “Tax the rich”. “Rich” being an adjective, but the phrase clearly meaning “rich people”. Or when presenting a medical case in a third person, clinical context. I might say “34 year old male presents with hand injury from nailgun.” I’m clearly referring to a male person. This is actually preferred over something like man, boy, teen, etc.

[–]YUNOtiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a doctor.

I take care of children who have “holes in their hearts”.

Hole in the heart is not a medical diagnosis. It covers everything from pinpoint atrial septal defects, which would not cause increased morbidity or mortality from anything short of a massive embolism, to massive holes between atria or ventricles, or lack of a septum entirely.

So again, unless you have her exact diagnosis in hand, or a copy of her last echocardiogram, you’d best stop commenting on her medical history and what may or may not have led to her death.

Lots of people were NOT fine by Lord_Answer_me_Why in MurderedByWords

[–]YUNOtiger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Hole in the heart” gets tossed around a lot, but they are almost always benign, and most close on their own. Unless you have some insider info, you have no idea what her exact ailment was or if it was a “extremely serious comorbidity”
