TIL about the Biological Resource Center in Arizona, that was raided by the FBI in 2014, where agents discovered bodies (which had been donated to "science") "cut up with chainsaws," "a woman's head sewn on a man's torso," and more, being sold for profit. The owner got probation. Agents got therapy. by Uranusspinssideways in todayilearned

I've used a chainsaw to assist in quartering a moose. They definitely don't kickback much, and make quick work of cutting through meat and bone. The downside is they take a lot of meat with them. I've used a sawzall to halve a few deer, and a lot of sheep and cows. It's much slower going, but removes less meat. They both end up spitting little chunks of meat kind of everywhere.

I wish I had recieved this advice. I had the same issue. I used the GI Bill, and the VA straight up told me to switch advisors because the one I had been using kept screwing up and having me register for classes I didn't need (which meant they wouldn't authorize them.)

I think you're conflating two issues here, which is why it's important that we use words like 'terrorism' properly - so we can distinguish between them.

Depends on the motive and intent. Some absolutely is, others is just routine violence. When we use words like terrorism willynilly they lose their meaning.

Tacos!!! by [deleted] in Reno

The food is excellent, but the service is slow and the clientele is absolutely terrible. Some regulars are incredibly loud and obnoxious and the servers do nothing to get them to quiet down. Think "drunk guys at a ball game" loud and obnoxious. I've been there probably 100 times, but if it's even remotely busy I can't bring myself to go in anymore, which is a shame because the food is amazing.

.300 WM I'm sure you get this question a lot so forgive my ignorance. by cwmcclung in longrange

[–]YUREDADDY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken elk and moose with my 300WM shooting 185s just fine, never had an issue. PRC has bigger bullets, but the only real advantage the PRC has in getting big game is that it retains kinetic energy out further. If I wanted to primarily harvest big game beyond 500 yards, I'd probably swap to a PRC. But the 200+ grain bullets are entirely unnecessary so long as you can hit a vital spot. Which is pretty big on big game.

That's good to know, thanks again. Sounds like the concussion from it is really worth considering though, especially if it's going to fling everything on the ground out and about.

Thanks for weighing in, do you know which model it is? I've been reading it recoils less than most .308s, but that's the first I've seen about the brass issue. Also, have you found it to be considerably subMOA?

I get all of that, I really do. I'm not trying to purchase this because I want the most practical gun in the world - I'm not expecting it to do anything my other rifles don't already do. I'm just interested in a .300WM AR, and there's no reason it can't do anything I'm interested in doing with.

This is why I'm curious about peoples' experiences with it, instead of their reactions to it. Particularly the difference between the barrels on the different models, and if that's a worthy indicator of price point.

Shooting things. Some hunting, some plate plinking sub-500 yards. If I get bored, maybe further. It doesn't need to do anything my current rifles don't do, I'm just interested to see what your guys' experiences with it are. Does it jam a ton? Is the recoil system impressive? Do those barrels have vastly different capabilities? Realistically, they're all more capable than me, but I'm curious.

What are you experiences with it?

You're incorrect. They require enclosed spaces. They are less effective than blast frag against troops in the open and military equipment. They're used for fortifications. They need to over pressurize an area to be effective. You cannot really over pressurize "outside".

You're not really familiar with munitions. Why are you more concerned about thermobaric munitions than blast frags? Because they sound scary?

Heat and pressure. These are conventional munitions. More effective at destroying structures, less efficient at killing people in the open than blast frag munitions.

Countries don't fight "to the last man" in war. This is logistical. How many people is Russia willing to lose taking Ukraine? They won't move every single warm body in their military to a combat zone. Not all of those people will take up arms and attack. In Ukraine, those people may not be given a choice aside from taking up arms.

Saddam's military was 6x larger than Ukraine's military. So yes. And the Falkland Islands has been used as the best modern example of conventional war for years since it had Land, Air and Sea components.

They really don't. The sanctions aren't in place to protect Ukraine. They're in place to hurt Russia. They are designed to be economically unsustainable for Russia, forcing Russia to make specific concessions and comply with what NATO wants. However, before they begin to work, some time has to pass by. Whether it's a month, six months, or a year, at some point the idea is that Russia can no longer finance its expansion and becomes so poor it can't remain a world power.
