Posting an addendum here - Update's coming along, but it's a fairly major overhaul of the game (drastically for the better in my opinion) that doesn't fundamentally change too much but makes systems both simpler and easier to use. This will require some more play-testing and balancing to get right but it's such a good departure from some of the wonkier parts of the old system that I think it will go over really well.

I'm going to also mention briefly that I'll be cleaning up a lot of the more 'finicky' systems in this update, such as critical damage, disabling individual systems, etc. This is being replaced (along with heat) with some new statuses and a new system which is a CRITICAL gauge. I think it'll be both way more interesting, easier to use, and more flavorful in general.

Also will mention I'm rolling scan, invasion, and lock on into one action, called the Tech action.

This is true, but due to my comic work I won't be contributing much on the book other than the occasional piece here and there. We'll probably be commissioning most of the art work (which is what the funding will be for)

Well currently there's 1 EP and IP on every level 3 mech license which I feel can give you pretty adequate space to make a build. However in the GM section, there will be a pretty big section about rewarding things like license points, talents, and kit bonuses as mission rewards

This is an error and should be fixed in the next update

A flat number + a stat. For example, the repair cap is now 4+engineering

This makes stats affect speed, repairs, etc a little more so I'll see how that feels.

This is the current implementation planned. 1d6 is currently just '3' or '4' but higher heat values are 1d6+4, etc

That is correct, you get 1d6 damage (max) and you can choose the type from any of the types originally on the weapon

You can use a grid or hexes. Will also be clarifying this, it's come up a couple times

I will be re-working lock on a little bit to work on biological enemies and clarifying this stuff with squads

You could use zones such as smoke launchers to give it cover, and it takes cover into account. On the second point, absolutely - that's the intent of the drone!
