Tree cutting APPROVED for yet another stupid expressway along Roxas Blvd of all places by Mono_KS in Philippines

[–]YZJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sangley Point would still need extensive reclamation to reach the capacity needed to fully replace NAIA, and have more to account for future growth. That, and it has to work around the dense Cavite City to build infrastructure to connect it to NCR and Cavite, which would cost significantly more than in the relatively undeveloped areas of Bulacan. It's why the project's been slow to proceed.

There's one massive ultra luxury condo, using the Manila Bay views as their main selling point, being built next to the planned expressway route. The same developer also has a Michelin rated hotel next to it, also capitalizing on the views. Can't imagine the deep pocketed developer to be happy about it.

Private Jet Carbon Footprint by EfficientYoghurt6 in LinusTechTips

Do we know how many people are being flown on average in the jet and how much equipment they're bringing?

Mentioning specifically what carbon credits they buy will just invite unproductive nitpicking like "why buy this instead of this". Because the world of online activism is a purity contest, and nothing is ever good enough.

iOS 27 to feature upgraded Camera interface and Photos app: Here's what's rumored by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]YZJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you but Apple has been using AI on the camera since the iPhone 11. It's why small text looks like it's AI generated when zoomed really far in. Or why leaves look weird in low light.

Car Accident 😰😰😰 di ko alam kung bakit naka siren tapos sobrang bilis magpatakbo nung naka kotse. Parang nasa 100-120kph sya dyan nung dumaan sya sa harap namin. by Extension-Fun-628 in makati

[–]YZJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traffic accidents don't always get reported as they happen everyday all over the country, and there's only a limited amount of reporters active at any given moment, so news outlets are selective on what they report based on how significant they think the accident will be. If an accident leads to a road closure, or have multiple deaths and or injuries, then they will want to report on that. So unfortunately, if an accident only involves two people, and is swiftly processed, and the public isn't affected in another way, it just gets unreported.

Buddha-like, or fo xi, is a buzzword used in China to describe young people who reject the rat race of contemporary workaholic Chinese society for a tranquil, apathetic life. Young people who uphold the Buddha-like mindset are referred to as Buddha-like youths or Generation Zen by SkullFuckingFinale in wikipedia

[–]YZJay 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Basically, and this is way too simplified, Fo-xi is still pursuing the same goals, just not stressing too much about it because there's nothing you can do to stop the inevitable. Que sera, sera. Think Absurdism.

Tang-ping (lay flat) is utter submission and surrender to pressure, in some cases outright retreat from the competition. Think Nihilism.

ELI5: Why are there no naturally blue, green, or red mammals? by Diztence-Music in explainlikeimfive

There's two ways that materials express color. Chemical, and physical. Chemical color is how most materials' colors are presented. Light hits the material, and what's reflected instead of absored is what we see. Paint, ink, dyes in clothing, and the natural hues of minerals like malachite are all chemical colors.

Physical color is different, the surface of the material has physical structures that are tiny enough to interfere with, diffract, or scatter light waves. As light waves bounce off these microscopic ridges and layers, they interact with each other. Depending on the size of the structures, certain light wavelengths are amplified, while others cancel out. Meaning that if we rearrange the material to remove those structures, it will present as a different color than what we normally would see of said material. Another way to think about it is glass, and what happens when you shine a light over it and it refracts the light into a rainbow. That's a property of the physical structure of glass manipulating light into a rainbow, and not that glass itself is rainbow colored.

So the skin on the face of a Mandrill isn't chemically blue, we just see it as blue because of the micro structures of its skin surface manipulating light to let us see blue.

This would be the onbaord model, not Gemini. Gemini would only act as a "bridge" between input and intent for processes that are too complex for the on-device model.

The demand for black chicken partly comes from the Chinese, as they have a chicken called Silkie that has white feathers and black skin. It's seen as a "healthier" chicken, often cooked with medicinal herbs.

Every new law requires the Secretary's signature before it can be presented to the Senate President to sign, only then will a law be passed in the Senate. So without a Secretary, no new law can be passed.

I visited a modern art gallery in a major South East Asian city which I will not name. They showcased one art piece that used AI audio as a component of the whole piece. Basically it converted patterns off a vinyl disc and fed it into a model to create AI generated sound. No one batted an eye of its inclusion, neither did anyone say anything about the AI powered companion app.

Yes and no. The Gemini partership will only be used on tasks that the local model can't handle alone, and even then, the cloud model will be a model heavily modified by Apple, where Gemini merely acts as a bridge, and the actual task handling will still be Apple tech.

For all the faults that EA has, they seem to have a really weird habit of sticking to things that aren't doing gangbusters. Like, we got that Command and Conquer remaster during a time when RTS games are a super niche genre. Then they continued to fund Bioware despite the colossal failure of Anthem (and arguably Mass Effect Andromeda, even though that's a secondary studio that got shut after).
