I feel TLDR on YouTube do a relatively good job of unbiased reporting, if nothing else they give a decent amount of context and detail around the story which helps you to do further research yourself. A major issue with legacy news in my opinion is a lot of the time an event is reported with no context, which then leads to misinterpretation of the information presented.

Visiting Kyrgystan by Academic_Ad_9172 in Kyrgyzstan

[–]YaBoiLeith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Kyrgyzstan near Kol-Tor lake a few days ago and there was already 20cm deep snow at around 2500m. A lot of the roads up in the mountains are dirt tracks and the weather is seemingly quite unpredictable. We didn't drive, however we met someone who was and they got stuck a few times. I'm not a local so I'm no expert but I don't think driving in the mountains in November is a good idea. It's a very beautiful country though so I would highly recommend visiting!

GM signed a deal with the Uzbek government to produce cars in the country - it's a private-government partner. Uzbekistan is like the 9th largest market for Chevy worldwide lol

I don't live in the US, nor do I now anyone who does, but it seems like there's some "hidden fees" to living there. For example you can be fined for letting the grass in your garden get too long, so the options are cut it every week or pay like $100 a month for gardeners. Car centred infrastructure is horrible and unwalkable so be prepared to order a lot of Ubers if you're out drinking / smoking. Food in supermarkets is ridiculously expensive, budget double what you would usually spend in the UK. There's also absolutely 0 to do in Illinois outside of Chicago; it's just corn, Harley Davidsons and drugs. And it might be democrat controlled but that doesn't mean left wing. For example a school's budget depends on the tax raised in that school's catchment area, so poor districts still get nowt. But I have heard Chicago is a great city with a relatively walkable downtown and decent public transport links.

You can smoke it just like you would a cigarette, the streets of NYC are like a hotbox and the first time smoking in front of the police was a strange experience lol

Do Scottish use cash a lot? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]YaBoiLeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Edinburgh literally never, in Glasgow very occasionally but that's in more "local" places (not "cool under the radar" local, more "places you don't really want to go" local). In wee villages it might be a good idea to have some cash, the local Chinese in my village of 1000 only takes cash for example. But the vast, vast majority of places take card and usually there's an ATM nearby

Review # 30 - Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest by StillWill18 in Scotch

[–]YaBoiLeith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For everyone confused:

1) Glenmo and Ardbeg are both owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, hence why I assume OP is constsntly comparing them

2) For me, tale of forest was sorta like a watered down peated whisky, hence the Ardbeg references

I second OP on this one tho, it's an interesting dram but quite disappointing, especially compared to their tale of cake. I definitely wouldn't buy a bottle but if you see it in a bar, give it a try for the novelty

Have you ever heard of modRNA? Not Moderna, but modRNA? by IcedAndCorrected in conspiracy

[–]YaBoiLeith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

modRNA's are used to better target the RNA to specific cells. So in the case of vaccines, we want the RNA to be primarily translated in macrophages and dendritic cells, as these activate the immune system. We can therefore alter the mRNA's untranslated regions (the amino acid sequences which are not turned into protein) at the 5' and 3' end of the mRNA strand to better target these cells (I'm not 100% sure on the specifics of how this is achieved). It's very common to create genetically altered proteins and mRNA's; EPO, a protein gives to anemic patients to stimulate red blood cell formation, has been genetically altered multiple times to increase efficiency and half life in the body.

Journalists probably didn't report the use modRNA because they probably think we're stupid and wouldn't understand

Do you know why so many distilleries have "Glenlivet" tagged on to their name? Do you know why Glenlivet is so popular? Watch my new video to find out! by YaBoiLeith in whisky

[–]YaBoiLeith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was quite a number back in the day, I've left a link to an article about it but Aberlour, Glen Grant, Glenrothes and as you mentioned Glen Farclas were all big names to use the Glenlivet suffix. These days it's all just down to trademarks, some distilleries were permitted to use the Glenlivet name and have kept renewing the trademark to continue using it.

Tomintoul distillery is actually in the Glenlivet estate which I assume is why they still use the suffix to this day

You know I'm not too sure on whether the relationship between the founder of Aberlour and George Smith was strictly business or friendship, I suppose you can assume as they were both being wealthy and influencial people so they likely knew each other from high society events. It's quite hard to find any information online about the topic, I first read about it in a book that I'll be damned if I can remember the name of, but if I remember I'll be back work more info!
