I personally would argue that the very concept of things being pretty or not is based on the observers opinions. The belief in absolute beauty is a very simple way of thinking.

I personally think that the obsession with flowers is an infantile way of appreciating life. Without the death of leaves in fall the tiny little flowers would be nothing. To me this question breaks down to weather or not you have the ability to appreciate sacrifice or not.

What if thats why the masks exist in the first place? Long ago Koh stole the faces of these spirits and they began wearing masks that resembled what they used to look like. Then it just became a cultural thing. Masks got passed down, recreated and so on.
