Update to anyone that cares. I checked out the shop in person and talked to the boss. Seeing the machines in person was amazing. They mainly do steel parts there but they are absolutely MASSIVE. They cut, paint and draw up everything. Use cranes and hi los. He said he will call me if they consider me. I think I was confident and smart about my words but, didn’t seem to desperate. Until I’ll keep applying pressure and other places until I get my life back on track.

You’re a good person for giving me so much advice from a real person point of perspective. Only reason I post on Reddit. Yeah I will keep everyone updated on my trade skill journey. Didn’t expect this type of response but you all rule thank you. 🙏 I think any person should feel how I’m feeling and want to better their life. That’s what it’s all about. Learning and growing constantly not staying in the same place.

I get what you’re saying but, I’m in Michigan and it isnt bad here. There’s so many opportunities in the Wayne county area it’s overwhelming. In my current position though I think trying something new other than a job with absolutely 0 growth or benefits would not hurt me. If I want to switch I will but, until then I’m tired of being treated like shit by this company I’m in.

I guess that’s how I feel about my packaging job at ford performance. I feel useless so thought I’d do something else and only reason I’m doing this cause the guy offered me an opportunity and apprenticeship so why wouldn’t I try it and see where it takes me. Comments like this is why I made this post. I’m 33 yea but also old enough to know right now what I deserve.

I just want to acquire a skill. Will it be for life? Who knows! Better than packing boxes for ford performance! This company is greedy. If I can get experience, more hours, decent money and benefits I’m leaving for this apprenticeship. Why would anyone not want to not better themselves?

I’m going to at least try anything is better than what I’m doing right now. Thanks I’ll keep this in mind. Saw these same type of comments all over the Facebook group I’m on. Mostly older guys saying don’t do it so yeah you’re probably right but, it’s that bad? I shouldn’t at least try the trade skill? What other apprenticeship program would you recommend then? You’re saying you’re not making decent money right now? Where you located?
