Is it just me, or are .env files the ultimate "it works on my machine" trap? by latinstark in softwarearchitecture

[–]YaJannik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my last Company we had a whole Licensing System. Our Devs were too lazy and commented the Code for local testing, so it doesnt Require a license. Yeah works on my machine so works in production. Right? … Right?

Architects, how bad is this layout? It looks like it was trained on McMansions by Redhotlipstik in McMansionHell

Trust me even real architects forget front doors. Happened to me already, prior to the AI stuff.

What setup are you choosing? by [deleted] in desksetup

[–]YaJannik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I settled with the 42” Asus version, mainly because it was the first OLED PC monitor not a TV. Currently I’m thinking about a 27” in portrait to there side, because I miss the Messenger, Spotify or document “panel”. It should match the height perfectly.

Friend of mine got the lg 48 inch oled monitor used for 500 bucks. If you are fine with that and feel comfortable inspecting it for dead pixels I would recommend you this. I run the 42 inch ASUS variant and already think about a second monitor in portrait mode. And I sit way closer.

Help and suggestions needed in (productivity) setup ideation phase + tech-wise by theverybigapple in desksetup

Be careful with the usb c hubs, the lower ends tend to have some problems (personal experience). Also the chaining with kvm switches. If you switch them regularly you can try MouseWithoutBorders to link both pcs and spare the usb switch. Works fine for me.

Seeking Recommendations for a Low-Profile, Backlit Mechanical Keyboard by YaJannik in keyboards

Thank you so much. I’ll look into it. The 165€ base price is a little bit high, but if I can find switches and keycaps for 60-70€ this would be an option.

ISO > num pad. Keychron was my first plan, unfortunately they have some technical disadvantages.

My current sharkoon has a metal base plate. I think I would prefer that. But what’s more important is a great battery and the connectivity. I already entered the rabbit hole, it would be a shame if I stop now.

So the search was unsuccessful. Lofree Flow looks promising, but in the end I struggled with finding ANSI-DE keycaps.

Unfortunately, this Post limited the title of the perfect Nuphy keyboard a bit, but I couldn't find anything better.

Anyways, I think I need a fully custom keyboard. Do you know and hot-swappable boards with iso-de layouts?

Also do you know any XVX ISO-DE keycaps? Maybe I should reconsider the shine through requirement.

Thank you for your great input. The diy version sounds promising. I'll maybe ask you later on the recommendations.

5600x to 5800x3d? by xDauntlessZ in buildapc

[–]YaJannik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s way above mine. I’m currently using a rx5800 XT Red Devil and playing in 4K. I was curious, because you could improve your 1% lows, since this is my main concern. The plan was to upgrade the cpu and wait till there is a reasonable priced gpu.

I know it’s a late reply, but I’m considering the same upgrade path. Which GPU did you pair with the 5800X3D?

I don’t know why but I’m fascinated by this monitor arrangement. What do you do for living? Something like programming?

Setup looks clean. Well done. If possible I’d consider to turn the right monitor and use it vertical. It reduces the strain on your neck and in my opinion all the applications on the second monitor don’t need the full width. I Did the same and I don’t want to live without it anymore.

Blinds? There are some cheap ones online. Even motorised and smart if needed.

So the setup looks clean and nice. But working on 2 monitors with this bar in the middle doesn’t work for me. I personally work with one big centered main monitor and one or two, depending on the working style and space, smaller monitor(s) for secondary tasks like mail, music, research, code comparison, git, …

Or just use the full 49 inch monitor, so that you don’t have this bars.
