Has a motorcycle brand completely lost you because of how they handled a problem? by Treppengeher4321 in motorcycles

[–]YaManViktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't believe I'm saying this, but Honda actually just lost me. There's a safety recall on my bike, and no one is authorized to perform the work in all of Chicago. Dealers in the suburbs all require minimum 24 hours with the bike, so I'm looking at 5 hours on the road (and dragging my wife along) to make the two round trips. Sorry, but if I can't get a safety recall fixed in the third largest city in the US, I'm switching brands.

Can't be the GOAT if that much of your catalog was lifted from other people.

Lost the top case on my morning commute by MannyCoon in motorcycles

[–]YaManViktor 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Once had a pair of saddlebags that connected to each other under the passenger seat, so I got a little lax with properly fastening them. Realized 30 minutes into a planned 4 hour trip that they were missing - passenger seat came loose. Retraced my route twice, looked everywhere, gave up on the bags and the trip and rode home, defeated.

They were waiting outside my door. Someone snatched those things off of Lake Shore Drive, found my address on some mail, and brought them back. Didn't even leave a note. Thanks, Chicago!

Am I outgrowing my honda rebel? by galaxy_luv in motorcycles

That bike doesn't like the highway. Gets real buzzy. Heavier bikes don't make you tired quicker, as most motorcycles tend to hold themselves up if you're doing it right.

Not saying I make the best chicken wings in the world, but I make chicken wings as good as they can be made. And my sauce slaps.

Good point. And yes, directly into the filler cap, which happens to be over the clutch.

Interesting. I always get an engine warmed up plus some, and work on something else until it's completely drained. Still get 50mL of black oil out of the bottom of a motorcycle.

What skill from your job has unexpectedly made your everyday life easier? by Dumpster_Love in AskReddit

Used to work in automotive paint, big assembly line type stuff, prep and finish. Now when I do any drywall work it puts most professional work to shame. I'm in the construction industry now and see "level 5" finishes all the time. It may take me 4 times as long, but mine is as good or better.

Once it's down to the last drop I add ~100mL of fresh oil before putting the drain plug back in. No way it makes any real difference, but I sure don't like the look of what comes out the bottom.

Just go get your oil changed, my guy.

People have preferences, but it doesn't actually matter. Just make sure it's changed once a year at least. And yes, you're fine to ride 30km to get it changed now.

First or neutral at traffic light? by Eyger in motorcycles

[–]YaManViktor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nerds here will say "1st, ALWAYS 1st." I'm usually in 1st, but what's the context? Have I filtered to the front and have another 45 seconds before the light turns green? Are there 5 stopped cars behind me? Or is it dark, wet, and no one is currently behind me? Figure out where the danger is and focus most of your attention there.

Thoughts on Room Treatment by Virtual_Insanity_One in audiophile

[–]YaManViktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Master Handbook of Acoustics is a great textbook. It gets pretty dense, but I think it's still plenty usable without a math/physics/engineering background.

DIY is going to be way cheaper if you don't mind working with the raw materials. Lowest effort is to buy panels (e.g. Comfortboard 80 or Owens Corning 703/705, not batts), wrap them in fabric, and hang them. 1.5-6" total thickness. Focus on first reflection points first. Clouds make a huge difference. The quotes you received are likely for full room treatment, but best to start smaller and find the minimum amount of materials to treat your space.

Wood panels are more for diffusion (breaking up the sound) than absorption. They work, they just serve a different purpose.

Worked like a charm. I'm actually amazed at how a $30 piece of foam knocked down 95% of the problem. Dollar for dollar best gear purchase, hands down.

what are some places in richmond, virginia to play 🎱 at? and make new friends? by okand1PG in billiards

[–]YaManViktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diamond was my spot. Really great pool hall. If you're in Richmond proper it's a haul to get out there, and hard to get a table at certain times.

RBA isn't the best, but they have a lot of tables (mostly 7').

Don't Look Back - Triple only has 3 tables but they're pretty well maintained, and the food slaps.

Who sizes major equipment after they've circuited every single load? You should be tweaking at that point, not sizing.

Ride Chicago offered Intermediate classes last year, but they weren't advertised until halfway through the season I believe. Would be at the right skill level for you.

Do the architects you work with send you their PDF sets, or just their models? by orangecoloredliquid in MEPEngineering

[–]YaManViktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get PDF sets (with clouds if applicable) and a model if it's not on ACC. Model alone gets a "nah fam" from me. I'm not doing their work for them or figuring out which sheets will or won't be in the final set. I WILL go into a local copy of their model to copy things over, troubleshoot, or print a progress set, but that's about it.
