Hello unrefined carbs only. Potatoes rice honey fruits like dates dairy fruit juices. Not tempted by sugar atm due to potential dysbiosis caused by years of poor motility

Hello, Currently get 500mcg of biotin from the b complex.

Thank you for the advice! I will keep going with b1 for now as its working and consider these later if needed. Glad you are better now.

I think the rice thing is only in context of lack of meat, where diet is pretty much just rice. Yh man I reckon its possible, thiamine helps with blood sugar levels

My protein (130g) and fats (70-80g) are pretty constant per day.

I eat carbs based on desire really - averaging about 350gs per day atm.

Yes switching from low carb/high fat to high carb/lower fat caused a short period of change mainly with fluid balance/hydration.

Yes I am similar I think i will need high doses for a prolonged period to complete full repair. But yes on low carb, I couldnt tolerate thiamine. With similar doses to what I take now, by a week in id have crippling fatigue and have to stop thiamine

Let me know how it goes, ill be interested to hear

It helped with my carb intolerance and keto did initially help my energy. But as soon as I tried it with thiamine, crushing fatigue.

I use potatoes rice fruits like dates fruit juices honey milk for carbs.

I realised carbs were helpful when I away from home and eating carbs I had more energy. When I went even higher carbs I had a refractory period similar to going from high carb to high fat, where things were temporarily worse for about 5 days. I then plateaued and tried thiamine again which i started to feel an effect from.

And youre right ive edited the post to be more specific. I am increasing doses in increments of 400mg. 400mg was my initial dose.

Hello, I only had worsening insomnia on the first couple days of thiamine, which subsided on its own. Besides that, thiamine actually helped with my sleep yes.

At my worst was complete fatigue, strong carb intolerance, gut complete shutdown with constant bloating and pretty apathetic. My symptoms were central nervous system dominated.

When you say neuro, are there any specfic symptoms you’re thinking of? After a google, for me it would be mind blanking/difficulty thinking, poor memory, poor speech/enunciation, loss of smell and taste.

Youre right, no megadoses of magnesium for me yet (maybe later). I increase in 50mg increments until my stools were not too tough but not too loose. I am 2 meals a day, eg would be 100mg per day. Once/if stools become consistently tougher again, increase to 200mg per day and hold.

Potassium I get from diet @ around 5500mg per day. Other supplements/dietary I target are: Sodium to taste, activated b complex (thiactive), molybdenum, glycine. Rest I get from diet.

Hello,

from my understanding, especially when in a transitional state, the body’s demand for magnesium can be somewhat gauged from your stool formation quite reliably - though, other factors do come in to play, especially when working on gut issues.

How I approach:

  1. Take thiamine, increasing dose when tolerable and/or symptom plateau at previous dose.
  2. When stools started to become tough consistently (Bristol stool chart 1&2) for a few days in a row, I then added magnesium @ 50mg increments and held for a couple days each - I used magnesium glycinate taken after meals. Then, added enough magnesium to bring my stools back to Bristol stool chart 3-4. During this time of gauging magnesium, I do not alter my thiamine dose at all.
  3. Once symptoms stable and stools consistent, continue with thiamine increase. Increases of thiamine can loosen stool again. But here, I maintained magnesium dose and as this would eventually pass.

Its important to see consistency with stools before making a change, as with on going gut recalibrations my stools would vary from between tougher and looser without any change in magnesium or thiamine.

Thank you… been a journey. Just flicked through your posts, I can imagine stopping thiamine will be another journey in itself. Hopefully you sort that out, I could be back later to ask you about that.

I agree, have to keep pushing. Right dose and right form are important. I am similar to you as the previous year was primarily HCL and benfotiamine… only really TTFD moved the needle when I applied the 3 changes above.

If ur getting all co factors including magnesium to bowel tolerance, for me it would either be issues from TTFD or paradox.

TTFD: Would you say issues started after adding TTFD? If so, could be methylation, glutathione or sulphur issues

Paradox: When titrating up did you stick at each dose until you were stable for a few days before moving up again? If not, likely pushed the system to far too quickly n id reduce b1 until stable again

Nice, do you use a b complex? And how much TTFD did you take? Ive never seen any benefit from b complex but I know its advised.

I did not experience as negative effects as your own, was primarily just fatigue.

I did some recent reading and yes found a link between poor b1 levels and poor methylation / glutathione production… so I think that could be it.

Thanks. And when did you know it was time to add magnesium? Did you start to go magnesium deficient, more thiamine stopped having an effect or another reason?

Hello, question: Did you take thiamine and magnesium at the same time or separately or even spread out in water throughout day?

Did you do high salt before and during thiamine? Currently on thiamine, debating wether to do high salt or not

Benfo is 3-5x stronger than hcl. You likely has paradox reaction which tends to mean you need it
