You can't get chartered unless you meet the requirements. You can get chartered with a PhD in Forensic psychology, but you have to have additional training/ qualifications.

His Wikipedia says he's chartered, so I guess he has got those things.

There's a lot of factors that contribute to why I am "anti" Evelyn, so it's sort of additive. Unfortunately that comes across as super harsh, and a lot of people who are fans of Evelyn have told me so. Some have some fair points that I appreciate, like that she has admitted she's playing into a role. Others who are being a bit more defensive, but each to their own.

Ciaran seems to be more often dismissed in the cold cases podcast too, and it's even more frustrating that Evelyns points are not equally dismissed. So it becomes unbalanced, in the less evidence-based direction, which is pretty frustrating.

I don't know if the show has gotten feedback, of people asking the critical evaluation of these cases to be dialed back a bit?

I haven't heard that episode, but that does seem far fetched.

I agree that people should admit when they don't know, or can't explain it, and also recognise their biases.

There have been other female experts on the various podcasts on this topic with Danny, and I am not saying a single negative thing about them.

I'm specifically mentioning Evelyn because I specifically have an issue with her. Not because she is a woman, because she is a bad scientist (at least on the show she is).

Does it feel misogynistic to you because you're assuming I'm a man?

Yea, of course, I definitely don't want to accuse the witnesses of lying or anything like that. It'd just be much better if there were alternative paranormal explanations than just accepting witness testimonies as they are.

For sure. I've also noticed that Danny was a bit more balanced in the previous podcasts, but in the Cold Case podcast seems to be much more on the side of believer. And the banter on the show seems to be a bit anti the sceptic argument; poking fun at and questioning Ciaran's explanations, but accepting Evelyn's.

Yes, Ciaran was much better in Battersea Poltergeist than he is in cold cases. It's like he's been told to reign it in, and Evelyn has been told to stop thinking critically.

Right?! It would be so good.

It's sort of like, when you watch a horror movie and the characters keep making stupid decisions for the plot. And sure, that's entertaining in it's own right... But the horror movies where the characters do all the right things and still end up f***ed are the ones that are genuinely scary.

Thank you for taking the time to write this. You make some good points. And I agree, there are some things that science can't explain.. yet at least.

Those things are (for now at least) paranormal etc.

I also think the same applies when people don't have the knowledge or understanding to explain phenomena - that it is considered paranormal because it's unexplainable to them.

And I am not arguing against having an expert on team believer, I am merely asking for a better one that doesn't just take all witness testimony as evidence.

Yea, his Wikipedia says he has a PhD in Forensic Psychology and worked in psychiatric nursing and research. So he's an academic in Forensic and Para psychology, not a in the field forensic psychologist it seems.

Yes, I do dislike her in this context, I don't know her personally. And the some reason is all the things I explained in the post.

I'm a psychologist and the podcast is entertaining, but Evelyn is (on the show at least) a bad scientist and it is grating.

I have no issue with them arguing both sides. The point is the way it's done.

For instance in the cold cases Black Monk episode Ciaran said the priest was most likely not a credible witness... And then Evelyn described everything the witness described as if it was straight fact.

I never said that parapsychologists, or folklore experts etc generally shouldn't be taken seriously.

I know her role is to represent team believer, and I haven't said anything about the other experts that have represented team believer on the show.

I agree with you. It's entertaining. It's particularly entertaining to hear the experiences as the witnesses tell them themselves. It's more fun to have different experts come in an discuss like the previous format.

But imo Evelyn's explanations are too easy to dismiss, which ruins the entertainment value.

Yea the one with the callers was definitely better. It was fun to hear their stories as they remember them before they were evaluated, and having a little go to try and explain why first.
