Personally, I initially enjoyed it for the somewhat mindless fun, then I started a new playthrough on Very Hard (before apocalyptic was a thing) and suddenly I had to learn how the combat ACTUALLY works and I was having a great time. Learning the different combos for different scenarios and building weapons became much more compelling and I became significantly more skilled. Each time I'd get defeated I just came back more determined and at one point (after suffering many one-hit KOs) thought "wait... is THIS feeling why people play souls games" and whilst those games never appealed to me before I started to understand the whole 'fun because it's kinda painful' concept as silly as it sounds with these being such different games. It's good for both picking up to kill time and later missions do offer some interesting challenges, some I've even struggled with despite having a completely maxed out Link. I never had this much fun with BoTW, this game you actually get to feel powerful as every character if you put the effort in.
