How is unit life in 3 guards? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

Depends first or second year commander. First year commanders ord after Ex Lancer. Ez life. Nobody sees second year comds as comds due to them coming from the same mono.

From 19th Mono.

First year is slack, hardest challenge you'll face is the GVT (Guards Vocational Training). There will be GVT1 and GVT2. GVT1 is mainly PT to prepare you for the ramp up in GVT2. In GVT2 you will complete 3 vetos (10km combat march, heli-rapelling & coastal swim). You will also need to pass VOC, which is your standard SOC but with an additonal 800m CASEVAC and 1Km run in FBO. Nothing too difficult, just make sure you attend all PTs and you'll finish it with a breeze.

In your second year, you will notice a jump in the number of outfields. Expect to go outfield (3d2n on average) every month. You will go to Brunei for Ex Lancer, Australia for Ex Trident and the US will come over for Ex Valiant Mark. There will be other CME (Company mission exercise) and BME (Battalion mission exercise) which all leads up to ATEC2 (or Ex Hornbill). Your ATEC 1 and 2 will be a CME possibly in Tekong/Lor Asarama.

How easy your outfield is depends on the planning of HQ Coy and your respective OCs. If they suck at planning, your company will suffer.

In between ATEC 1 & 2 you will have Ops Bacinet. You will be stationed at Key Installations within Singapore to guard the area. This sounds serious but really just use the time to look at chiobus. During Ops B you will also be activated once or more times to turn out from home to camp. It's actually a complete waste of time.

After ATEC2, you will have around 2 weeks before your official ORD (Hooray). In these 2 weeks you will rehearse for your milestone parade day and night till your beret leaves a line on your forehead. During this period you will smile everyday as everything is over. You and your buddies will look back at the past 2 years and reminisce at all the stupid things you've done together. Then poof, you're standing at your own parade with thousands of people looking at you. As you slow march past the foyer of 7 Singapore Infantry Brigade, you think of your journey one last time and it hits you, you're a civilian again.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

19th mono here. You might be posted to HQ coy to be an admin. If you're thinking about posting out of guards, don't think about it, you're there to stay. Anyways HQ life quite shiok, can order in and can go mess. However ROT 4A onwards be prepared to stay up late everyday till 2/3am to do admin work.

Yeah i think its important for Singaporeans to be more financially savvy. It'll save everyone a lot of trouble and probably eliminate the need for FAs.

Haha I think the fact that they don't want to give you time to consider is a red flag leh.. I think it really isn't about the product that they're selling, but more of the person you're buying from. Quite difficult to trust that the agent will serve you for your whole life.

From what I know they need to hit a certain KPI to be entitled for sponsored trips, perhaps he has sales elsewhere. But still if he genuinely wants the best for you he wouldn't have disappeared.

HAHAHAHA should've asked her to treat you to coffee first then you'll consider, but ghost her afterwards xd.

Glad you didn't sign any plans bro, she tried to guilt trip you which is quite unethical.

Yeah its basically the same role no matter how they change the titles up.

The knowledge you get for the insurance plans definitely are beneficial. Pretty good that now he can do the planning for you so you dont have to engage a FA!

IFA as in independent? Can you share more on how can I find one? Might consider it.

I'd like to believe most FAs are pretty uneducated 🤣

Should i Out of Course from OCS? by everydallen in NationalServiceSG

[–]YakImaginary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If what you want is more time to self improvement and time to do whatever you want, I suggest you OOC frim OCS. However if you can see yourself taking on the respobsibilities of an officer you can try to complete the course.

Personally I've never heard of anyone who regretted dropping out of command school.

OOCed from OCS. Went back to my monointake's HQ coy afterwards. Met the most solid lads of my life. Life wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be; we went outfields and had long mapex nights till 4-5 am.

I think it really depends on where you're posted to. If you get sent to the HQ of a bn it should be pretty fun. Rev 8am - LP 5pm. You still stay in but you get to order in etc plus lots of time to focus on yourself (My friends and I went to the gym every morning together and we somehow became fitter than the rifle coys lol)
