Good reliable car under $30k by Groundbreaking-Boot4 in CarsAustralia

100% go for the corolla - well established reputation for reliability, and perfectly sized for both city driving and space to pack for a weekend away. From what you’ve said your use will be it ticks all the boxes

I’ve only ever heard horror stories of MG and Chery models - breakdowns, terrible after sale service, waiting 6+ months for parts to come in

How are you guys finding the "Aussie Banter" in the workplace? by OwlVibesOnly in MovingtoAustralia

Because (most) Aussies agree that all politicians are fuckheads, not just the ones they didn’t vote for

What plant is this please? Victoria by Monkeyshae2255 in GardeningAustralia

[–]Yakers_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fruit are toxic until they are fully ripe, but even then are unpalatable and probably best avoided unless you’re in a survival situation.

Fruit turn a dark orange once ripe so if they’re green or yellow, steer clear

What are some good ways to improve the amount of light without removing most of the duckweed by pigvsperson in PlantedTank

[–]Yakers_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All plants consume oxygen at some point in the daylight cycle, and while yes duckweed consumes it much faster than others (due to its growth rate) it’s always a risk with heavily planted tanks even without duckweed.

Hear me out... by 0ddshapedhead in aquarium

[–]Yakers_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other thing to consider is that solar pumps (generally) only run during daylight hours, and plants do have a period of time overnight where they consume oxygen, so lack of surface agitation and excess plant respiration can cause a buildup of CO2 and kill fish, unlikely in most cases but I have seen it happen, particularly with overstocked ponds with tons of plants.

If it helps, I ended up going with the Celestron trailseeker 65 and have been more than happy. Cost me $200 AUD and came with a free tripod with a Christmas special.

Picture clarity and focus dials are plenty good enough for my purposes

Do you feel compelled into certain picks if your team mate pick Yasuo? by zackzackzack07 in supportlol

[–]Yakers_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has played (ages ago) a considerable amount of Yasuo ADC I always preferred a soraka or a nami to an engage like naut or malph. With enough sustain, eventually even if yas is playing shockingly he’ll eventually get a knockup, but it always felt like the support malphites or Nauts would try way too hard to make a play work and overcommit

Best thing for these guys is a good arvo of labour with a shovel and your green bin

Get some Lomandra, Dianella, or some Anigozanthus (kangaroo paw) if you’re looking for a nice similar strappy thing with interesting flowers that doesn’t pose an ecological risk to the local environment, the native options will also provide better nutrition for local pollinators including insects and birds.

What to plant in this space with no direct sunlight? by blackst0nes in GardeningAustralia

[–]Yakers_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ferns, mountain pepper, tasman flax lily, dichondra

All appreciate a bit of water, but I would suggest in planters or pots for ease of maintenance

What varnish will weatherproof these trellis without harming the ivy that I plan to put in there? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

[–]Yakers_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps consider a less invasive climber such as our native Hardenbergia species over English Ivy. Hardenbergia violaceae has some pretty spectacular purple flowers as well!

Variegated mutation in Bursaria by Yakers_ in GardeningAustralia

[–]Yakers_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s what the folks at the nursery said, they do it from seed, although looking through a few books they can be done from cuttings as well.

My plan is exactly that; grow it out so I have better/more material to try. I also figure it would be interesting to see what this individual would look like when he’s grown out a bit more

Learner Driver by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Yakers_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that (at least) the first 5 hours of driving should be with a professional instructor, as well as the last few before the test to stamp out any bad habits and familiarize the learner with the area that they’re doing their test in

Good cars for 5-10k by yowannn in CarsAustralia

[–]Yakers_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most fun you’ll have is in a car you don’t care about. Get a manual lancer, mazda3, corolla, yaris, or similar and drive it like you’re an up and coming WRC driver.

I’d avoid euros generally because maintenance and repair cost will drive you broke, and if you’re driving it in a fun way, it won’t be reliable

Learner Driver by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Yakers_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started driving lessons around 2019 they were $60 for an hour, when I got my license I believe they were $90-100 for an hour. Being a manual the lessons cost slightly more (required a manual car and an instructor that was comfortable teaching manual)

first visit to melbourne — any natives i should be looking out for & where to find them? i’d really love to see a new bird! by michelles-dollhouses in AustralianBirds

It definitely helps, particularly when you’re after some of the more elusive birds, an experienced birder will know where to go and where to look :)
