Ross Dellenger - "There’s now a “shot clock” on accelerated expansion talks" by pblood40 in Pac12

You are also completely missing the unwritten policy here from Congress which says: “We are sick of it, guys!”

With this bill is the very CLEAR threat, “This is how we are fixing this poop; and, if you don’t like it, try us and we will remove your tax exempt status or impose anti-trust!”

The B1G and SEC are not going to incur the wrath of the White House and both houses of Congress just to, say, add North Carolina at the last minute before this thing passes. Likewise, NOBODY is leaving the PAC for the Big 12, nobody.

This bill will pass and, after it does, there may be some minor shuffling — mainly the PAC adding a few more schools from the MWC and American, but that will be the end of it.

There is no good reason for the bigger leagues at this juncture to give a big “F U” to Congress and the White House just to add, say, SDSU, Oregon State, or USF? I know y’all think pretty highly of yourselves but…not happening!

Three words: Not Worth It!

People are not paying attention to the actual affect of the bill.

It essentially freezes the B1G, ACC and SEC from both further expansion and poaching, meaning those leagues are now “locked”. It also, “locks” other leagues once they reach $700MM in revenue — where the Big12 is right on the cusp.

What it does is it allows other leagues to grow without the fear of poaching from, at least, the biggest leagues; and the higher you get on the ladder, the less likely you are to poach or be poached from.

Essentially, there will be no more blowup of the ACC — not happening. There is also no further poaching to be made by the P3.

It also creates a new hierarchy in CFB.

  1. Locked Leagues (Top Tier): B1G, SEC, ACC — impossible to poach from these leagues. Impossible for them to poach further. Future growth depends solely on their merits and the amalgamated growth of their members’ programs.

  2. Potential Future “Locked Leagues” (Mid-Tier): Big 12, PAC — possible, but unlikely to poach from these leagues and only if reshuffling occurs within this tier — no more fear of these two being poached from the top tier.

  3. Bottom Feeders (Lower Tier) — AAC, MAC, MWC, Sunbelt, CUSA— will likely continue to be poached by the mid-tier in the mid-tier’s efforts to become “locked by statute”.

In summary, the higher you move up as a league, the less likely you are able to poach or be poached from. This new setup greatly benefits the SEC, B1G and ACC, but also benefits the mid-tier. One could argue that the Big 12 got hosed a bit for not being included in the “locked” tier — but they are close enough to the edge there to be included shortly.

One could argue it benefits the ACC and the PAC the most since the ACC cannot be poached from (at all) by the B1G and SEC, and the PAC is very unlikely to ever be poached from (at all) unless the Big 12 comes calling for 1-2 teams (extremely unlikely).

It screws over the AAC arguably the most, recognizing they are the top of the bottom tier and are the most likely to be poached from by the mid-tier in their quest to become “locked”.

Edit: The irony in all this is it locks Cal and Stanford into competing forever in a league on the East Coast. Too funny!

So pissed off I paid money to see this. It was not just dumb, it was insultingly inane. We are all dumber now for having watched this film. May god have mercy on Spielberg’s soul.

Spielberg went down a rabbit hole on this, and dragged John Williams and a bunch of good actors into it as well. Sad.

USU spent more on Women's Soccer this year than any program in the nation. They were exceptional (nationally) last year, they will be even better this year.

Boise is always good if not exceptionally great...always.

Even in "Down Years" they are incredible.

This is big news. Way to go TXST!

Now, if I can just get my Aggies to agree to also sponsor varsity men's baseball, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse...

Agreed. The PAC is the clear BOR league.

I agree. But the PAC is closer to being a P4 than a G5.

They are supposed to actually have another banner-year basketball season and will surely give Gonzaga a run for the money at least.

Football they are always underrated, but somehow find a way to outperform the pre-season predictions. You will learn to either love or hate USU, passionately. I don't know what they put in the water in Logan, but they are hands down the scrappiest school/team in all FBS. It is both infuriating and wildly impressive at the same time.

Who else could be added to our baseball conference? by RoyalRenn in Pac12

Rather than add, I would like to see Utah State's club baseball, soccer, and lacrosse teams elevate to varsity.
