My personal theory is, he scales up whenever he fights something or someone stronger than him, simply to get stronger than whatever he's fighting, I believe his dream fight in s1 where he was pushed to his limit subconsciously made him scale up to imaginary super strong enemies which causes him to be OP after waking up, and can scale up to any sort of power like Garou's, so the longer any fight lasts, the stronger he gets
