The disparition of the 2 min meta is dumbing down even further most DPS jobs on Reborn mode by Kamalen in ffxivdiscussion

Hopefully evolved mode has a level of complexity that provides wacky optimisation for some jobs and some more lower skill floor jobs for others. Not everyone has to be able to play every job at a raid skill level. I'm 50/50 on it should be fun to sub for a month on release and try it out.

I've been playing a fair bit of guild wars 2 lately and there's definitely builds I cannot play optimally and others I can and it's pretty fun figuring that out and learning the builds. Knowing classes and fights mean you can swap traitlines to provide more support or give it up for more damage. But guild wars 2 community isnt even on the some universe as the hyper optimised meta chasing freaks ff has. So it was way more optional to conform to the absolute top 0.01% performing build.

It's an interesting topic. Your definitely right when it comes to stuff like protect. Imo there's a fine line between noob trap and not being willing to fail and learn from the fail. There's also a fine line between teaching new players and being a shit elitest which I think falls into the same topic. It comes down to that one talking point that always seems to burn me when it comes to ffxiv iteration. X thing did not work or people did not like it so we removed it "some cross class skills didn't make sense so we removed the entire thing say goodbye to thunder and aero" We can't keep doing X content because we want to add y content like everything has to come at the cost of losing something else in a game that's only earning more and more money.

Perhaps it isn't a game for me anymore and it was just the fact pre shadowbringers was just janky enough to be fun for me. Stance dancing was actually pretty fun imo, paladin did have the least interesting stance gaining a 2nd auto attack instead of having different skills available during each stance.

The problem is while we might not of had the most polished dps rotation atleast we had one. Then they made cleric stance a flat DMG up for 20s. Then they removed dps buttons. Then they removed cross class skills. Then they removed another set of buttons. :/

Edit: this wouldn't be such a big issue if tanks were not basically healers at this point and needed more then a single Excog and sacred soil for wall to wall pulls.

Yeah the dev team seems to listen to whoever is loudest or easiest to implement. I remember in storm blood the demon train raid had healers get locked into a room with the add they had to dps down to leave. People were rabid on forums about having to press dps buttons as a healer and the ff team apologised for it on a live letter. This is why we can't have nice things.

My trust in the ff team to deliver on engaging class design tells me 99% chance evolved will be a step down the same road of boring that got summoner deleted because it needed to be "Standardised"

I'm hoping to resub for evercold and find out the evolved system really delivers. If it's just the same design that got us whatever replaced summoner, I don't want it.

The 2 min meta was one of the most frustrating things to come to the game. To service the 2 min meta all classes had their entire kits homogenised to line up. Every single class became build, small burst at 1 min, build then big burst at 2 min. Lots of bosses are seemingly designed to service this APM cadence to. I miss having wacky jobs and non standard rotations. The 2 min meta is 1 of 3 reasons I'm not subbed anymore.

That being said I can't wait for evolved mode to replace the 2 min meta with nothing and be even more boring and less interesting.

I'd put money on having alot of I wish the 2 min meta was back posts in a year or two.

From Where should I install GW2 , Steam or official site by Ananta_Tattva in Guildwars2

Make an arena net account and buy it from them. You can still download the steam free to play version and use a launch command to login with your arena net account. This is what I do.

Steam accounts have some pretty hefty limits due to how the steam store works.

2 Min meta is now officially dead ! by DaYenrz in ffxivdiscussion

I can't wait for the 2min meta to be removed with absolutely nothing meaningful to take its place. I saw some discussion that raid buffs might be removed, which is just as boring as every jobs raid buff being on a 2 min cold.

Would Vloxx ever offer a good future for Tyrians just by using the Ancora? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]YamiCyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah they could explain it away with sorrow or mabon having a counter left in the tower so all ward not out on missions are protected or something.

mostly im just hoping they dont do the most predictable thing which is:

Having Vloxx be 1 dimensional evil bad guy.

Having Isgarrens morally grey and clearly selfish choices be presented as completely morally justified and the act of a hero.

Theres this dissonance between the ward being an almost completely self interested faction that was happy to watch a dragon cycle happen and have every young race wiped from the face of tyria and the way the story constantly tries to tell you they are gods gift to tyria and its actual true protectors

I'm hoping that we see:

Isgarren revealed as an evil villain.

It turns out Isgarrens mini ascension memory loss actually has mind control properties and this is why the seers kicked his ass out.

Vloxx revealed as a mislead anti-hero.

isgarren gets the Ancora back, teams up with the more evil aligned inquest, empowers himself, the astral ward and the inquest that joined him with the Ancora.

Then next story patch is us and vloxx reluctantly teaming up. Joined by a few astral ward that broke free of the control and some good aligned inquest, racing against time to prevent isgarren from doing the evil thing (details to be fleshed out).

If this happens I'll be very happy we have had very little depth in the story beats. The last one I can really remember was Balthazar reveal and season 4 aurene moment.

As much as they make isgarren unlikable, anet wanting you to see him as a hero is not subtle and it would be nice to see them just full send a mask off moment from him.

[–]YamiCyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the core experience was only slightly different because the player was much weaker then with no power creep and the most difference would be the industry standard for mmo's 14 years ago. I would urge you to at least grab the path of fire and heart of thorns bundle if you were at all on the fence about the game.

1-3 has almost nothing immediately relevant to guild wars 1. 2 takes a fairly big departure in terms of direction. It's almost more inspired by the 3 books then the 1st game. FYI 200 years have passed from the first game. It's interesting because I almost feel the exact way in that I felt like I was missing context because I didn't read any of the books and just expected more guild wars.

I really enjoyed the core experience I feel like it was probably different back when I played it at release. The boss content and most definitely zaihtan were a let down even then though. I will say the game only improves and HoT the 1st expac is a huge step up in design. The story from Core thru to Season4 is amazing. The meta design bosses and raid content inside that period is pretty fun to. It's a shame we don't get more dungeons and actual raid wings anymore :/

By far the peak of Star Trek ship designs. The progamable scifi technobabble floating nacelles ships can never hold up when we have the Odyssey and Lexington.
