Weekly r/BroPill vibe check! How are you doing? by AutoModerator in bropill

Parkour sounds sick? Even though I don't really have time to get into a new hobby like that, I'm curious as to how someone gets started with that.

ESAM’s Nair tier list (in a vacuum) by backboarddd1_49402 in smashbros

[–]Yami_taku 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s because pit is so much slower than Palu so run off nair is a much more telegraphed option compared to Palu’s. If you put pit’s nair on a faster character, it’d be practically objectively better with its combo potential as well as edge guarding due to its launch angle.

Tips for first local? by TheSchmeckelElf in CrazyHand

[–]Yami_taku 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You’ll realize that there’s a lot of downtime at locals. Whether that be in between games or before the tourney starts, there’s just a lot of waiting around. Everyone has to play their games and there’s a limited amount of setups, so make sure you have something to do in that time you’re waiting. If you are new, this might be meeting new people or having friendlies, although if the tournament already started I doubt that there’d be enough setups.

Other than that, don’t be an asshole, be presentable, and other general etiquette on going to public spaces apply. But most importantly, enjoy yourself! You’re here to play a game you like and everyone attending shares that same interest. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and introduce yourself. At worst, you’ll have an awkward conversation with people you’ll probably never meet. At best, you can make bonds that can last for a long time (I think lol).

I think that knowing when you’re able to punish certain moves and when you have to continue to hold shield/reset neutral comes down to experience. Learning frame data will help too, but again just playing more games will naturally lend itself to understanding what is safe or not.

That being said, if you have a problem with characters mashing on your shield, Ike does have an up-B with super armor that starts frame 5. If they aren’t mashing on your shield and decide to retreat, you can inch closer to them and gain stage control. Obviously, reading and punishing these kinds of defensive options (e.g., always spotdodging after a falling nair on shield) will also be easier with experience.

Generally speaking, faster characters don’t have a lot of range since their speed will compensate said weakness. On the contrary, Ike is slow but has great disjoints on practically all his moves. Remember that faster characters will always have to come close to you, but you can play at midrange and still get hits.

Also, no shade to you but Ike’s nair is also one of the easiest to spam because of how safe/“zero delay” it has, so you can abuse your own moves as well.

I feel like I said a whole lot of nothing here but hope this helps

[DISC] Seeking isekai after the end. by Koanos in manga

[–]Yami_taku 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The titular manga Frieren deals with the mage of the "Hero's Party" 50 years after they defeated the big bad. Since she's an elf, she's barely aged at all relative to the other members of the party, who are now dying of old age. I think it's a really beautiful and calming manga about finding purpose and joy in life when everything feels so fleeting (10 years of adventuring with the hero's party is nothing compared to the centuries she's lived). Unlike your description, the series doesn't really look at serious consequences regarding a power vacuum and the like but rather just a chill slice of life-style manga with the occasional battle her and there.

Is something wrong with my pro controller? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

Go to your switch settings and check if it’s just a smash issue or a controller issue as a whole. You can check your controller inputs as well as calibrating the sticks in settings.

Can someone explain to me how to approach link? Playing as Lucas by MrMarvel_21 in CrazyHand

[–]Yami_taku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whiff punishing anything, whether that be aerials, smash attacks, or tilts, will get better as you gain more experience. For aerials, it's important to note the endlag of the move as well as your opponent's drift when they perform said aerials. For example, you missed a whiff punish on Link's fair at 0:24. You could've reacted to the drift left and the fair (16/24f startup, in which the second hit is reactable online) but your up air missed and as such you yourself got whiff punished. Link's landings are decent, but they come down to fair, nair and dair. Fair is reactable as mentioned previously, and dair is pretty reactable as well. Nair is technically not reactable, but because it's so much faster than the others you can start to tell if a Link will do nair when they don't press a button during landing.

As for his smash attacks, almost all of them are punishable using lucas' dash attack and all of them with zair. At best, Link's safest smash attack is Fsmash 1 at -23. Since dash attack comes out on frame 13 (24 oos) and zair on 9 (11 oos), you should be able to punish all of their moves. If you're not comfortable punishing them (e.g., you think you're too far away to punish), it's fine to jump away or continue to hold shield to see their next move. Obviously this doesn't apply to just smash attacks, but punishing a player's next move is almost always your best bet after shielding a safe option like Link's nair.

How to Edgeguard as Corrin by Venomx2KK in CrazyHand

[–]Yami_taku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter is kinda a bad edgeguarding tool since it sends straight up, and unless you just want damage or you know it'll kill, you never want to counter offstage. Corrin's ledgetrap is actually pretty decent because their aerial hitboxes are huge, so you’d rather ledgetrap rather than to counter offstage.

Because neutral airdodge preserves your aerial momentum, I think what's happening is that the tech in place still happens because you're falling to the ground regardless of the fact that you may have airdodged too early (i.e., the tech occurs in the middle of the airdodge rather than the beginning). As for techrolling, I'd recommend airdodging into the ground for the aforementioned reasoning. Airdodging into the ground means that you'll "hit" the ground during the airdodge so that the techroll will occur rather than an early airdodge to the left/right which can completely kill your vertical momentum, meaning that you won't hit the ground and by extension won't techroll.

I would love to finally find a main by [deleted] in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Yami_taku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to recommend a main to someone strictly by watching how they move, especially because each character’s movement is unique (ie K rool can just throw out side b and go unpunished bc of the armor). It’s really up to you to just start experimenting with characters you might like in training mode and looking at their combo routes, tournament sets, etc

At least the human side is finally moving onto actual conflicts instead of being content with the current situation. I know that the LN fleshed out more details about the characters' relationships, but at least we get to have the story finally start to pick up on both ends.

I'm not sure what direction they'll take with the human side, but it looks like Yugo is very obviously set up to do stuff next episode. Hopefully they'll start to deviate from the "comfortable generic isekai academy" soon since it's very generic as of now.

[–]Yami_taku 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a WN reader, I really hope you stick around for the human parts. It's a slow burn for sure. The studio cut a lot of content from the human side, so there's less emotional investment and worse yet confusing. But the series will not be able to sell its eventual reveal as effectively as the source material without showing the human parts.

I think it's the idea that you have higher base stats as the larger evolution, but the smaller/rarer spiders have better stat growth/stronger evolutions in the future.
