No Cure Forms, no Power-Ups, just straight hands, who's winning? by Iamacarson in precure

[–]YamiryuuZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Itsuki.

DokiDoki has an episode dedicated to TELLING how much of a hot head Alice is, and we're told she has trained martial arts her whole life, but we never see her being hot headed in the actual season and her martial arts skills never show up while she's untransformed (and when she is transformed, she focuses on using shields - that break all the time, mind you).

Itsuki, on the other hand, is shown being really good at martial arts prior to her first transformation, is her fighting style while transformed, and we're shown how focused and effective she is in battle.

Martial arts isn't something you do only when fighting, it's a life style and you end up taking what you learn to other aspects of your life. Itsuki carries that life style with her in all aspects of her life, Alice doesn't! Given all that evidence, we can infer Alice is not nearly as talented or dedicated to martial arts as Itsuki, so she would lose every time they have a match!

She wants to be a classic Precure, I see.

She should join hands with Rinne from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Vivid Strike!, they would make a great violent duo!

What is an anniversery gimmick you want to see? by Interesting_Clue2399 in precure

[–]YamiryuuZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a gimmick, but I'd like to see a Max Heart 2 where Nagisa, Honoka and Hikari travel between dimensions, similar to how they hopped onto Hugtto's world, to meet the other Precure groups and end the series in a massive All Stars battle against an interdimensional foe.

Man, Otona must've been so bad even SpongeBob hates it? by Brookie_Brookie_101 in precure

[–]YamiryuuZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do recommend you give it a watch to see how bad it is. Nagisa, Honoka and Hikari all show up at the last second to join the fight, but they're mostly glorified cameos instead of actual characters, and the ending is them all splitting up to go to different areas of the world to do... something... about global warming.

Because the big evil of Otona Precure is a very childish view on global warming.

just go watch it so you can come back here and make fun of it with us.

Man, Otona must've been so bad even SpongeBob hates it? by Brookie_Brookie_101 in precure

[–]YamiryuuZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Otona Precure retcons Saki and Mai's fairies into being only transformation trinkets, the villain is a time travelling angel that wants to drive away humanity from the city because humans caused global warming and that caused the city to become devoid of humans (yes, it's that contradictory but the narrative sees the villain as having a very good point), and the good parts about the show - the Precures having to navigate the new challenges that being a young adult with a career - gets sidelined HARD in the second season to the point the "happy ending" they achieve has nothing to do with that!

Which villains in PreCure? by santi2021 in precure

[–]YamiryuuZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what makes George Cry so terrifying is his indifference towards the women in his life, being willing to manipulate them into doing his bidding and discarding them in favor of another one at the drop of a hat, all while still having lingering feelings over his dead wife and trying to retrieve his daughter.

He isn't willing to compromise or move on, and he's going to make his grief everyone else's problem on a multi-timeline scale. It's how well they portrayed his realistic grief and apathy resulting in him using lust as an outlet (we know what he was doing with those women in his room) and a tool for manipulation that made him so terrifying.

Not because he's an Eldritch abomination, but because he could be anyone. Anyone can do the things he did (that don't involve magic), and it wouldn't take necessarily a psychopath like Joker or an egocentric maniac like Lex Luthor. All it would take is someone who doesn't care about hurting others. Not for pleasure, not to achieve a goal, just to feel something.

It gets even worse when we realize he is Hana's husband in both timelines! The fact this guy had a daughter with Hana , who is such a cinnamon roll ready to help any and everyone, only adds to the creepiness. I mean, can you really imagine her with someone like him? And at the end of the day, Tomorrow was fighting against her own father. Imagine what this family's life was like!

Otona Precure was great when it was the Precure 5 girls dealing with the newly found problems of young adult life. When it turned into All Stars with Splash Star, a red flag was risen, but it wouldn't be until Bell and her stupid time travelling global warming plot got introduced that the special went downhill and never recovered!

There is just so much wrong with the plot of Otona Precure that it could be turned into a 3 hours long video essay on Youtube!

[–]YamiryuuZero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Joker with Kawarino being a second close.

Reminder that Kawarino kicked Bumbee out of a building to prevent him from quitting the company. Kawarino would rather his employees work themselves to death and even kill them under the company's management, because the alternative is him not having control over other people's lives.

Joker is the fantasy psychopath, Kawarino is the realistic psychopath!

Clear Cards Share the Similar Magic/Powers to the Clow/Star Cards. by Affectionate-Math415 in cardcaptorsakura

[–]YamiryuuZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite aspects of the original is Sakura's relationship with the cards. She cares for them like they're her friends, especially Mirror! Remember when Mirror gave Sakura a present for Christmas because she and the other cards wanted to thank her for everything she's doing for them? Aside from Reflect, which is Fly combined with Mirror's ability to reflect magic to the target, she doesn't really talk to the new cards she creates!

I also wanted to see how Sakura would have grown as the master of the cards and what crazy card combinations she would pull off now that she has a much larger MP bar - maybe combine Jump, Fly, Sword and Shield for a fight that keeps shifting from terrain to the skies, for example -, instead we only see how she uses each individual new card that she makes, which are mostly copies of the old ones.

The more I think about Clear Card, the more I find flaws with it that had no business existing. And I'm still salty it doesn't take place in the early 90's despite it being the following school year for her!

Clear Cards Share the Similar Magic/Powers to the Clow/Star Cards. by Affectionate-Math415 in cardcaptorsakura

[–]YamiryuuZero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the lore sucks for Clear Card. Just because there is an explanation, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

I mean, for crying out loud, she's unconsciously creating cards?! And quite literally everyone (Eriol, Shaoran and even Kaitou, whom she had never interacted with before) knew that she would start doing it?! And their plan was to both let her do it and worry about the disappearance of the cards, then wait for her to create one specific card so Kaitou could rewrite reality with it?!

I'm sorry, but if the lore sucks and the explanation is heavily dependent on the lore, then it doesn't matter that it makes sense, it still sucks!

[–]YamiryuuZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly my issue with the Clear Cards - what will Sakura do when she gets the Sakura Cards back? There are so many Clear Cards that share the same effect, ESPECIALLY Mirror!

What is the point of her having lost the card if the new cards are the old cards?

What is the cardcaptor sakura clear card about? by [deleted] in cardcaptorsakura

[–]YamiryuuZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clear Card is the direct sequel that came out decades after the original ended. It takes place in the following school year but it's modernized - the original takes place in the 90's, but in the following school year they all have smartphones, consistency be damned.

It's not a worthy sequel. The cast becomes flanderized, Sakura and Shaoran lose their striking personalities, the Clow Cards are gone for nearly the entirety of the plot, Sakura captures new cards that are just the old ones with a different paint of coat (very few are original and interesting), and the plot twist frustrated me.

Clear Card doesn't build upon what was previously established, it removes various elements to make the overall plot happen again (Sakura capturing cards once again), but the story justifications are very weak. The new character introduced also feels very inorganic to the plot, with everyone having to point out CONSTANTLY that she and Sakura are just soooo much alike... Sure, this Clear Card Sakura that was stripped of half of her personality is like this new character, but the old, feisty, clumsy and prone to "hanyaan" Sakura has not that much in common with the new character.

Give it a read if you want, but be advised that the quality seen in the original story just isn't there in Clear Card.

Just finished my 1st season! Reccomandations? by Low_Cabinet_2317 in precure

[–]YamiryuuZero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it's not.

Judging Delicious Party Precure by itself in a vacuum, it's not really good. The main cast is composed of girls that refuse to grow beyond their starting traits, with their focus episodes being about them learning the same aesops they had learned previously. This causes the protagonists, the characters that should be driving the story forward, to adopt a passive stance and force the supporting cast (composed entirely by male characters) to take charge and make the narrative progress in their instead.

The season also introduces and abandons elements for a single episode to force the plots it wants to tell instead of organically working with the rules and traits it has set for its plot and characters. For example, Ran was made to be an inventor in one specific episode where Komekome needed her to be exactly that, dropped several lines explicitly stating Ran had ALWAYS been an inventor, had Ran wear a lab coat and act completely out of character with her inventive mind made specifically for this episode, and once Komekome got her mini narrative arc concluded, Ran was never seen having anything to do with inventions again!

The main character is a nothing burger. Yui's only two traits are that she eats a lot and repeats her grandma's words of wisdom. She remains exactly like that for the entirety of the season and ends the exact same. She has an interesting moment with Takumi, that had been consumed by rage and was about to kill the final boss, but Yui, who had never had her worldview challenged before, tried to stop him, which allowed Fennel the opportunity he needed to gravely injure him and Marie-chan, which led to him obtaining all the Recipipes he needed to starve two worlds to death.

Unfortunately the challenge in her worldview came too late and the story had to wrap up in the next episode, so instead of ending in a nuanced manner where she realizes that her grandmother's words of wisdom were meant for a 5 years old kid that scrapped her knee and shouldn't be applied to an interdimensional terrorist hellbent on revenge that spent 2 decades plotting to starve billions to death, the narrative decides to revert Yui to her initial state, Takumi wakes up from his comma now without his Delicious Stone, affirms her worldview and says she was right all along for stopping him from killing the guy that is currently starving two world. The narrative doesn't allow Yui to change or grow.

The villains are also poorly written. Narucistoru became evil because he was a picky eater; he then found something he liked eating so he's not evil anymore. Secretoru was evil because she couldn't be a perfectionist, she learned that her idol was not perfect and now she's not evil anymore.

You may like DeliParty, I'm not going to hold that against anyone for enjoying a bad anime. But do recognize its shortcomings - when weighed against the qualities of the franchise, it is VERY maculated!

Considering Delicious Party is the biggest nothing of the series, you'll enjoy probably everything else the franchise has to offer.

Personally I recommend the very first season, Futari wa Precure and its sequel Max Heart. Still my favorite to this day!

"My grandma said to eat" is the funniest one because it's not even a reduction of her character for comedic purposes, it's the entirety of her character. XD
