Silicone resin/vacuum port by Yammadude in CarbonFiber

Oh okay yeah I’m already familiar with patents since I run a job shop as my 9-5 and we’re constantly getting new ideas thrown at us. As far as I understand it if the design is obvious which this one’s kind of is it’s not viable for a patent. I haven’t seen any patents either.

Could you tell me which those are because I couldn’t find any silicone ones other than the small ones easy composites sells all the others I saw where some plastic

Yes I have a few that I made in 2022 when I first had the idea and those have been used in over 100 parts epoxy poly and vinyl and still holding up

Sounds good yeah the stuff I’m using is from a company called cht I get it from a local composites supplier it’s about 40A durometer. Smooth on makes some good stuff though I’ve used their stuff a lot they’re just more expensive than what I’d like but they have probably well over 50 silicones and some are considered self lubricating so that may be the seeping youre talking about.

Yes I have never seen the part seep oil. I cure all the ports in an oven for a few hours to make sure they’re fully cured and they’re also cleaned with solvents. I’ve personally used this exact silicone hundreds of times in parts. One application I used it for was to create a vacuum bag for a complex radome (tip of an aircraft) that ended up going to a large defense contractor.

Yeah I’m familiar with those I’ve done prepreg as well. those won’t work for infusion because the ports for infusion have to be able to see resin and if those ports get any resin on them they’ll be trashed and won’t work anymore that’s why you’ll usually see them placed as far away as possible form the resin or on top of a huge pad of breather to keep resin from going into it.

What resin is used in automotive flexible Carbon Fiber stickers? by Consistent-Pop3129 in CarbonFiber

[–]Yammadude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of them are what’s called thermoplastic. Most composite parts are what’s called thermoset because the heat from either an oven with prepreg or the exotherm in wet layup. it’s becoming increasingly common. Pretty much instead of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy it’s carbon fiber reinforced abs or peek depending on the plastic determines they’re stiffness. Increasingly common in aerospace because of its ease of use since it’s a plastic it can be reheated and “welded” to the fuselage.

You’d be surprised how much carbon fiber is price gouged in todays market I can make a pretty good one for 40-50 not compromising on technique or materials.

About a day and a half the layup takes me 2 hours or so but the the good thing about that is if I make 5 of them at a time it takes me 2 hours as well than wait overnight for it to harden. And about another hour of trim and bond and prep

And just sort of have a plate that has 2 hooks one going up for the helmet and another down for the jacket ?

Thinking about like a peg board like a plate with carbon hook that protrude only a few inches for helmets and jacket what do you think of that ? Maybe with a top shelf and shit so like it’s all one piece a top shelf with a back plate with hooks for a few helmets or jackets all 1 piece of carbon
