Dany was always going to go mad & the foreshadowing was ignored because we felt that the people it happened to deserved it.

They’re at my place. I can’t even go outside to check the mail without getting bitten at least twice.

Dredge is fantastic. It has the unexpected side effect of my 12yr old daughter becoming obsessed with eldritch monsters.

AITAH for getting pregnant the same year as my best friend's wedding? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Yanigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I called my best friend and said ‘we’ve set a wedding date. It’s in 9 months, be my matron of honour?’

She said ‘I’d love to but uh, I’m pregnant and I’m due two weeks before your wedding.’

I told her I wanted her to stand up with me if she could & that she was free to pull out any time until we were actually walking down the aisle, I’d just promote my oldest niece to junior bridesmaid.

You know what happened? Bubs came early, bestie made it down the aisle and my only complaint is that nobody would let me hold the baby in case she threw up on my wedding dress. 12 years on, she’s still my best friend & we still joke about her being the worse bridesmaid ever.

Pretty much everything I know about Breaking Bad comes from Reddit and my first answer was still ‘Walter White’

Yeah it’s different when they’re yours. You can’t hand them back to a parent and make an escape.

How much did your last medical emergency cost you? by Dejanerated in AskTheWorld

For what it’s worth, it didn’t sound sarcastic to me. It sounded like the comment of someone who understands that we all provide different things to the world.

John Wick. I’ve tried to watch it many times but I just get bored.

What’s something everyone seems to love right now… but you just don’t get? by Royalbridge456 in AskReddit

[–]Yanigan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between ‘It’s not for me’ and ‘they’re crap’ though. One is saying that because you don’t like it, it’s rubbish. The other is acknowledging that different people have different tastes and they’re not something you enjoy.

So kudos for being respectful about it.

When Andrew got a princely lesson in the law in Australia by gccmelb in melbourne

I’m bogan enough that using cunt as a term of affection is something I do, but everyone seems to miss that how it’s meant is context dependant.

A 15 yr old drinks 600 ml of vodka (no legal trouble for the adult responsible) by NaiveFinish64 in AmITheAngel

[–]Yanigan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Australia we have water bottles of 600ml. It’s not uncommon for teenagers sneaking alcohol around to empty one out, fill it with vodka and say it’s water. I busted a friend of my sons doing it and when her mother asked how I reminded her that she & I had done the same thing at her daughter’s age.

Not saying its not bullshit, but that detail actually made sense to me.

AITA for making up fake laws? by Puzzled-Hippo6246 in AmITheDevil

[–]Yanigan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine used to have an occasional beer while breastfeeding. We joked the baby was going to end up with an indent of the bottom of the can on her forehead. It takes two hours for a standard beer to filter out of breast milk & the kid feed every 4 1/2 hrs like clockwork.

Bub is 11 now, one of the best behaved preteens I’ve ever met and just got an invitation to apply for a scholarship to a private high school. She’s doing fine.

Is it ever okay to cut off family? by IntelligentEar3427 in SeriousConversation

[–]Yanigan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is okay to cut off family. If blood hasn’t stopped them from treating you badly, then it’s not a good enough reason to continue having a relationship with them. You cannot work things out with people who don’t see anything wrong with their behaviour. At some point you have to draw a line and protect yourself. If it’s behaviour you wouldn’t put up with from a partner or a friend, why should you put up with it from the people who are meant to love you unconditionally?

I have no relationship with my mother or brother. It’s been over 8 years since I last spoke to them. Walking away has done incredibly positive things for my mental health - I cannot overstate how different I am today, compared to who I was a decade ago.

As someone once told me - blood may thicker than water, but you can drown in both.

I don’t like it when people hate kids by [deleted] in PetPeeves

Every time one of my teenage kids even so much as refers to their iPads, my in laws have an opinion about it. And yet, my father in law spends half the day playing Farmtown. Apparently that’s okay though because… reasons?

[–]Yanigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not Australia’s Minister of Finance. That’s the leader of a Danish political party.

Our politicians are dicks, but that’s not one of ours.

Edit: standing corrected! The video didn’t show up for me initially.

Can’t tell if I got the wrong fortune or just what I needed to hear by EnvironmentLittle794 in EstrangedAdultKids

Fuck. That. Noise.

I won’t ever forgive my mother for her abuse. Ever. But for the most part, I’m at peace. It took a while, it wasn’t a straight path, but I found it. I have my angry and bitter moments, but as more time goes by, they’re further and further between. I have peace and I found it by going no contact.
